To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, FINLAY R. MoQUEEN, a citizen of the United-States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Storageto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 4
My invention relates to so-called work-- ing elevators, to-wit, that type of elevator in which grain is not only adapted to be stored, but is adapted to be weighed, cleaned, graded or otherwise worked. elevator a workhouse is located below .the

Particularly, this invention relates to fireproof elevator construction in which masonry work is reinforced with steel or iron.
The invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter def scribed and defined in the claims. Y

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section with some parts left in full,
taken through the workhouse, the bin com` partment, the tower andthe car shed of an elevator structure embodying my invention.

The storage bins 1 are cylindrical with conical bottoms liaving discharge passages 2 that open through' a reinforced floor 3.l
These bins are of masonry and may be either monolithic reinforced concrete or of reinforced brick or tile, and they are placed in parallel rows in two directions and are closely positioned so that their tangentially abutting portions are united by metal reinforced vel;- tically extended connecting bodies of masonry 4 which, as will presently appear, constitute extensions or upward continuationsV of the bin supporting columns and 'serve'to rigidly tie together the adjacent bins.

As shown, they vare reinforced by longitudinally extended rods 9 and hoo s 10. AS best shown in Fig. 4 the upper lends ofthe columns 7 are expanded at 71t so that they directlysupport and unite ,with quite large areas of the floor 3. The spaceunder the bins is inclosed by side walls 11, prefere ably of concrete or other masonry, and this p space isl divided into a workhouse 12 and basement 13 "by a suitable workhouse floor 14 shown as made up of transversely extended I-beams and a suitable ooring, the said 1I-bearns being supported by the` columns 7 and walls 11. The bin space is inclosed by Walls. 11av that constitute walls 11.
The towerv 15, which is preferablyconstructed entirely ofmetal, is'located above 'the bins 1. A Its Side walls comprises vertically extended iron or steel beams 16 which may be extended downward through the in-- closing walls 1 1a to the upper portions of theA masonry walls 11. Its oors 17 and roof '18 are supported by these Wall columns 16 and by interior columns 19, which latter columns are also steel or iron. These interior co1- umns 19 aline vertically each. with a column 7 andl column extension 4, and their lower ends are directly anchored in'or bear upon ,the upper ends of the latter. With this arrangement, the main weightof the machine -filed May 17, 1906, entitled grain storage elevators, supplemental lstorage compartlextensions ofthe Vments 2O are formed between each four adjacent bins, and certain of these supplemental storage compartments are provided with transverse masonry tie walls 21 that extendv from top to bottom of the bin and cut o from the supplemental storage compartment a \-ertically extended space through which one oll the elevator legs 22 is passed. The coi'pern1-ing elevator leg is extended through a similai` protected passage formed by a masonry tie wall 23 which connects the outer portions oll two adjacent bins. The supplemental storage compartments are shown as provided in their lbottoms with discharge passages that open through the iioor 3. Within the tower .16 is the usual garner 24, scale :25 and distributing spout 26.
'lhe numeral 27 indicates discharge spouts ol' the usual or any suitable construction which extend from the tower into a car shed 28 at one side of the workhouse.
The numeral 29 indicates, diagrainmatically, box cars within the shed 28.
As shown in the drawings, a grain unloading' sink of the kind disclosed and claimed in niyprior patent'No. 854,377, of date May 21, 1907, entitled Grain unloading sinks for elevators, and which device, therefore, need not be here described, is applied in the f pit 30 belowv the said car shed.
What l claim is:
l. The combination with a multiplicity of masonry bins having their axes arranged in rows inA two directions and having their tangentially engaged sides rigidly united by masonry body portions, certainof which constitute column extensions, and supporting columns below said bins vertically alined and united with. said tangential column extension portions of said bins and serving to support the said bins only at two diametrical y opposite points, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a multiplicity of bins having their axes arranged in rows in two directions and 'on lines that intersect each other approximately at. a right angle and having tangentially engaging sides united by vertically extended masonry body portions, certain of which constitute column extensions, supporting columns below said bins, vertically alined and united with said tangential column extension portions of said bins and supporting said binsat twodiametricallympposite points only, and certain of which bins are further. connected by trans verse tie walls that extend l'roin top to bottom of said bins and forni, on opposite sides of the tangentially connected portions ol' the bins, spaces through which elevator legs may be passed, substantially as described.
3. 'lhe combination with a n'iultiplicity of masonry bins having their axes arranged inrows in two directions and on lines that intersect approxiinately ata right angle, said bins havin their tangentially engaged sides unite by said masonry body portions, eer- -tain of which constitute column extensions, transversely 'intersecting metal reinforced concrete or masonry girders located below said bins, certain tl'ierei'ii being extended directly under and united with the tangential column extension fori'iiing portions thereof, and metal reinforced concrete orv masonry columns below said bins united at their iip per ends to saidgirders and to the said binsA D.
