W. MINTE. E FOR KNIFE BEAMS OF MOWING MACHINES. APPLICATION FILED MAY 27, 1907.
FASTENING DEVIO I/VVIA/TOA Mnvzssr;
WILHELM MINTE,
OF DRUSEDOW, NEAR TRAMNITZ, GERMANY.
FASTENING DEVICE FOR KNIFE-BEAMS OF MOWING-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
Application filed May 27, 1907. Serial No. 375,919.-
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, WILHELM MINTE, farmer, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Drusedow, near Tramnitz, Prussia, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices for the Knife-Beams of Mowing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fastening de vices for mowing machines, in which the knife beam is reciprocated by means of a connecting rod, the other end of which is attached to a crank. The connection between the knife beam and said rod must be articulated because the connecting rod is reciprocated in a vertical plane as well as a horizontal plane.
The obj ect of my invention is to provide an improved form of joint between said rod and knife beam, and one which can be easily connected and disconnected.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved fastening device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail showing the end of the connecting rod.
The knife beam 1 carries the cross bolt 3 which is adapted to enter recesses 6, one of which is formed in the rigid portion 4 of the connecting rod 2, and the other in the movable part 5 which is hinged to said rod. The opposite'faces of the ends of the parts 4 and 5 are slightly recessed, so that a small space is formed between said ends when the'parts 4 and 5 are brought together. This space is designed to receive the part of the beam 1 which carries the bolt 3. The recesses 6 eX- tend into said last mentioned recesses. The part 5 is swung outwardly and after the cross bolt 3 is placed in position part 5 is swung back, so that said cross bolt has its ends lying insaid recesses 6. To keep the'parts 4 and 5 together, a clasp 7 of channeled form is provided, which is hinged to thebar 2, so that it may be raised and lowered as shown in Fig. 1. The clasp 7 incloses rod 2 on three sides, and is secured in place by bolt 8. The knife beam and the connecting rod are connected with each other as shown, in the axial direc tion of said rod, and the strain which the connecting parts are exposed to is therefore very sli 'ht.
fiaving now described my invention, what I desire to secure by a patent of the United States is In a fastening device, the combination of a reciprocating member and a connecting rod, of an arm hinged to the connecting rod, said arm and rod having recesses therein on their opposing faces and also having cavities eX- tending into said recesses, a bolt secured to the reciprocating member, and having its ends bearing in said cavities and a clasp of channeled form hinged to the connecting rod and adapted to hold said arm against the rod to hold the bolt in place.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILHELM MINTE. Witnesses:
