Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
Application filed December 7, 1907. Serial No. 405,618.
I T call whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lucius TINSLEY, of Crawfordsville, in the county of Montgomery,
State of Indiana, have invented certain new for Electrical onductors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in wall brackets .for
. ter with grooves 14 formed in the top I View on line 44, Fig. 1.
electric conductors and relates more particularly to that class of inventions known as divided insulators for holding or supporting electric wires. 1
The invention'has for its object the production of a simple and improved clamp adapted to support a plurality of conductors, such as the twisted wires used in telephone drops in residences or on pole tops, orsuch other places where such devices are found convenient.
'A further object is to provide means for insuring that the conductor wires willremain separated at all times, and thus avoid danger of short circuiting.
I A further object is to provide improved means for securing the bracket in position and for simultaneously clamping the members of the insulator together.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:Figure 1 is a plan view illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is an end View. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the to section of the insulator] Referring to the rawing, 10 designates the top or outer member and 11 indicates the lower member of my improved insulator. The under face of member 10 is provided with transverse roughened grooves 12 flared at the ends, as indicated at 13 and adapted to regisface of member 11. Said members are also provided in their ends with registering grooves 15. The clamping member comprises a base or flange 16 provided with a central opening 17 conforming to the contour of the members 10, 11, said opening being spanned by a yoke 18. Said yoke is widened centrally at 19, and fits within a corresponding shaped groove or recess 20 formed in the outer face of member 10. Said yoke is also widened or thickened, as indicated at 21 to i i i and useful Irn rovements in Wall-Brackets l 1 currents.
fit in the grooves 15. The base 16 is also provided with openings 22 for screws or other securln g means.
are p aced between members or blocks 10, 11, resting in the grooves 12 and 14, after which the clamping member is passed over said members, bein threaded over the 'ends of the wire. nwill be observed that the block 11 projects through'the openin 17 in the base which purpose. The clamping member is then secured in position against the wall or other support. When the parts are assembled the portions 19 of the yoke 18 lit in the grooves 15 to prevent lateral movement oi the blocks 10, 1 1, and the outer arm of said yoke enters the recess 21, whereby longitudinal play is prevented. As the base member 11 bears against the wall or other support the flange 16 is held away from the latter, with the resuit that members 10, 11 are firmly clamped against the wires or conductors as the securing screws are driven home. It will alsobc observed that the bracket or yoke may be enameled or covered with avitreous coating to afford a maximum insulation when my device is used to support wires carrying heavy 1 claim as my invention? 1 1. A wall bracket comprising a plurality of insulating members, and a clamping-member having a base surrounding the sides of one of said insulating members and rovided with a yoke extended over the top 0 the other insulating member.
2. A wall bracket comprising inner and outer insulating members, and a clamping member having a base surrounding the sides of the inner member and provided with a yoke extended over the top of said. outer member said clampin member being also provided with means or engaging the ends of said insulating members to prevent lateral movement thereof.-
3. A wall bracket comprising inner andouter insulating members each provided witlf end grooves, and a'clamping member sur rounding said inner insulating member and embracing the top of the outer insulating member, said yoke being thickened to fit in said grooves. y
4. A wall bracket comprising inner and outer insulating members, the outer face-of said outer member being provided with-a longitudinal groove orrecess, and aclarnping member having a base surrounding the sides In practice, the wires or other conductors '65 permits sufficient play For this lot vvide with a longitudinal groove or recess,
ofthe inner insulatin member and provided l with a yoke arrange to fit in said roove or A recess, said yoke'extending over t e top of the outer member.
' 5. A wall bracket comprising inner and outer insulatin members each provided with end rooves, lie outer member being proand a clamping member surrounding the inner insulating member and provided with a i yoke arranged to fit within said longitudinal groove or recess, saidyoke also having thickened portions to fit said end grooves.
6. A wall bracket comprising inner and outer insulatin members, and a clamping member forme with a securing flange surrounding said inner member andprovided with a yoke passed over the outer f ace of the outer insulating member.
7. A'wall bracket comprising inner and outer insulatin members, and a clamping member forme of a base-having'an openin l to receive said inner member, and provide l with a yoke spanning said opening and passed over the outer insulating member.
' 8. wall bracket comprising inner and outer msulating members, and a clamping member, said clamping member embracing the sides of the inner member and provided with means for preventing lateral and longitudinal movement ofboth of said insulatmg members.
9. A wall bracket comprising inner and outer insulating members, and a clamping member formed with a yoke having an enlarged portion engaging the outer face of the outer insulator, said outer insulator being grooved to receive said yoke.
10. A wall bracket comprising inner and outer insulating members each provided with end grooves, the outer member being also provided with a longitudinal groove or recess, and a clamping member provided with a base having an opening to receive the inner insulating member, and also having a yoke 1 engaging said grooves and said recess.
n testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribmg witnesses.
LUCIUS TIN SLEY.
