Description
- PATENTED AUG. 11, 1908. F. G. PERKINS. I
GAME BOARD.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 9, 1907.
I FREDERICK G. PERKINS, OF BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY.
GAME -B OARD Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
Application filed November 9, 1907. Serial No. 401,455.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK G. PER- KINS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a game board. Its object is the production of a game board with a six sided or hexagonal rotatable top having openings in place of pockets, and a lower stationary portion with an annular groove. Means are provided to turn the top so that the players may remain seated while playing the game. The invention is adapted to be placed on an ordinary table.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the invention, Fig. 2 shows a partial section of Fig. 1 on the line 2, 2, and Fig. 3 is a partial section of Fig. 1 on the line 3, 3.
A stationary annular base 10 supports a lower bearing ring 11, and to the lower face of the latter are fastened the journal brackets 12. The base 10 also supports the journal brackets 13 which are axially in line with the brackets 12. Shafts 14 are supported in the brackets 12 and 13, and have fastened at their outer ends the cranks 16 with the handles 17, and at their inner ends are fastened the bevel gears 18. A circular groove 19 is formed in the base 10 adjacent to its outer edge.
The hexagonal top of the game board comprises the main portion or plate 20, with a cloth covering 21, and around its upper face extend the six sides 22, to which latter are attached the cushions 23. In the corners of the sides 22 are formed the openings 24 that lead to the groove 19.
To the bottom face of the plate 20 is fastened the block 30, which carries the center pin 31, that engages a sleeve 32 fastened in the cross-beams 33, 34 supported by the annular base 10. A side supporting ring 35 extends from the lower face of the plate 20,
and the latter carries the upper bearing ring 36, that bears on the ring 11. A bevel gear 37 is fastened to the ring 35 and meshes with the bevel gears 18.
In using the invention to play pool, the balls 40 are grouped in the ordinary way, and the said balls are driven into and through the openings 24 as usual. From the openings the balls drop into the groove 19. The players instead of walking around the game board to be in proper positions to shoot, turn the board by means of the cranks 16, into proper positions, and they can remain seated.
Having described my invention I claim:
In a game board the combination of a stationary annular base, a circular groove ad.- jacent to the outer edge of said base, a lower bearing ring on said base, journal brackets extending from the lower face of said ring, journal brackets supported in the annular base axially in line with the brackets extending below the said ring, shafts supported in the journal brackets, cranks attached to the outer ends of said shafts, a hexagonal top over the base, openings in the corners of the said top leading to the circular groove in the base, a side supporting ring extending from the lower face of said top, an upper bearing ring fastened to the supporting ring and bearing on said lower ring, a'bevel gear extending from the supporting ring, bevel gears on the shafts meshing with the bevel gear extending from the supporting ring, a block extending from the hexagonal top, a center pin supported in said block, cross beams supported on the annular base, a sleeve fastened in the cross-beams to engage the lower end of the center pin.
Signed at Bayonne in the county of Hudson and State of lew Jersey this 6th day of November A. I). 1907.
FREDERICK G. PERKINS.
