Be it known that l, Eniunx ALPHOXSE OMER Vi EL, citizeiiof the Re )ublic oi France, residing at 9 Rue Pillet-ll'ill, Paris, France, have invented a new and useful Improved l lurnaeo for lClYect-ing Fusion for Refining, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has for its object an im irovcd furnace for eil'ecting fusion or for rt-huiiig.
The furnace is formed by the temporary or permanent cmiibiiiation or juxta-position.of two independent elements; a crucible of suitable form either fixed, or capable of being rotated or tipped, and having the usual orilices for charging and discharging, and in addition one or more orifices for the admission of an electric are produced outside thereof by the second element of the furnace. The are produced externally is blown into the interiorof the oppositely situated crucible by a suitable blowing contrivance, preferably by ele'ctro-magnets of variable position and inclination.

The furnace comprises a crucible g lined with refractory i'uii-tcrial (lime and an oxid of the metal to be refined). As has been said above in the apparatus described which is really an electric Bessemer COHVQItQT, the mounting of the independent externsl electrodes .will vary according to the form and use of the oppositely situated crucible, in 83111803803 the electrodes being inclined as shown inl ig. 1 and in others rertfio'al as shown in Fig. 4.
