Be it known that I, Noan Fans, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, l
in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pane-Securing Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pane securing means and embodies certain improvements in these devices which provide for a simple and cheap clamp for securing together the beveled edges of two panes of glass or walls of wood, the objectof the invention being to appl v the clamp with as little previous )reparation of the panes as possible, as will' more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, where igure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device applied to the corner of two panes of glass. Fig. 2 is a. horizontal sectional view of two panes of glass with the de vice in plan; Fig. 3 is a detail view. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the two panes showing the opening for the stem of the device.
This device is adapted for use where two panes of glass are beveled and joined to form the corner of a show window or show case where no other agent is used to hold these panes together and it consists of the angle piece composed of the arms 5 and 6 whose inner faces 7 are made at an angle to correspond with the corner formed by the two panes. This angle need not be any special degree, as it is obvious that in the construction of windows and show cases the glass sides are set at various angles. here these two inner faces would properly meet a semicircular groove 8 is formed and er iii-distant from each of the outer faces of the arms a stem 9 is secured to the angle niece and in the groove 8. The stem is provic ed at its outer end with the screw threads 10 while it is formed with a reduced portion 11 adjacent to its point of attachment.
The binding or locking of the two )a-nes 12 and 13 is effected by means of a camping member 14' with a slot 15 for the passage of the stem 9. The (BK-S 16 of this member are turned at angles to correspond with the inner surface of the panes of glass, and to hold the member in place and clamp it against the panes a nut i) on the stem is provided to ef- .fect the clamping. One very costly feature heretofore in the use of these devices has been the perforation or preparation of the panes for the passage of the stem 9 and it has been cnstomarvro form a perforation in the angle formed by the panes by making a groove in each angular face, but this is not only costly but it is dillicult to cause the two grooves to register.
The present invention provides for a single groove or opening 17 cut in the beveled face of the pane 13, lbnt it is obvious that either beveied face may have the groove and it is necessary to offset the stem 0 to permit it to pass through this perforation on one side of the center of the juncture.- To provide for this 05 set ting the arm 5 is reduced in thick- 119$. or in other words, where the inner face of this arm 5 would ordinarily occup the dotted line 18 of Fig. 3, the arm is reduced and when fitted 'on the angle of the glass panes it consequently shifts the stem 9 to one side of the center of the angle and in position to occupy the groove in the pane 13. groove or perfiiration need be ver v small or only large enough to admit the reduced part of the stem and the groove 8 readily permits of the shifting or the angle )iece where the ordinary angular corner won d not.
The reduction of the arm 5 is so little that a casual observer would not notice the dill'crence between the size of the two arms and when the edges of the panes are properly beveicd no additional means are necessary to provide for a. more effectual juncture- The locating of the groove 8 in the angle of the two faces of the arms prevents any fras-rnre of the corner of the panes in consequence of the pressure exerted by the clam ing member l-L connection with the ang e piece as the arm: shifts the glas 13 towards the pane 12 and throws the stem 9 into its groove in the beveled edge of the pane 13 thus making a (close and solid joint.
