Description

A. D. ALBRECHT. I
PAPER AND LETTER HOLDER;
APPLXOATIOH FILED IAN. 16, 1908. v
ATTORNEYS NITED STATES Parana? AQDELL DEIiMAR ALBRECHT,
or GREENYILLE, ILLINOI 1 .PAPER AND LETTER HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADELL D. ALBRECHT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Greenville, in the county of Bond and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Paper and Letter Holder, of which tie fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates todevices for holding newspapers, letters and similar articles.
The object of the invention is to reduce a device of this class which is simple in construction and which can be readily mounted upon a wall or post for the purpose stated.
More specifically, the ob ect of the invention is to construct the device so that it can be economically manufactured. To this end, the body of the device is of special construction, which adapts it for being formed of stamped sheet metal.
Further ob'ects of the invention will appear more fully hereinafter.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in bothfigures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device, representin the same as attached to a door. jan b, and showing how it operates to hold a number of letters; and Fig. 2 is a side or edge elevation of the device.
Referring more particularly to the parts, 1
I representsthe body of the device, which consists of a wall plate which may have the form indicated, T iis plate is preferably .elongated horizontally, and is attached to a door jam'b or post 2 by means of suitable holding devices such as the screws 3. The up er edge of the plate projects upwardly and crimped so as to form a horizontal sleeve 4. The ends of the plate are bent outwardly and then inwardly so as to form hooks 5, which hooks present bills 6 projecting inwardly. The ends of these bills 6 lie near the face of the door jamb, as indicated most clearly in Fig. 2. These hooks 5 operate as uides in a manner which willappear more frilly hereinaften. The late 1 affords means for holding the arm 7 0 the holder. This arm presents two upwardly extending parallel bars 8,
which are bent outwardly at their upper ends, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and connected by a cross bar or handle 9. The two bars 8 and Specification of Iietters Patent. Applicstionfiled January 16,1998. Serial No. 411,194.
andle 9 are formed integrally with each. other, as shown. The bars 8 extend down- 'Wtldl between the face of the door jamb 2 and t e hooks 5, and are formed "at their lower :ends into resilient coils 10.
wardly in a horizontal-position so that the' upon the face of the l tters, holds them against the face of the doonjamb, as will be readily understood.
Special attention is called, alsoto the fact that the coils 10 are disposed at-. a'considerable distance from the body of the letters or papers held in the holder. This is a highly advantageous arrangement, as it o erates to maintain the bars'8 in substantia parallelism with the face of the door jamb as the number of letters or papers increases. This prevents the bars from exerting a reat'pressure at a singie point, which mig t tend to the letters or papers. In this rumple or fol connection, attention is drawn, also, to the fact that the coils themselves are not at tached to the face of the door jarnb, so that number of letters or papers increases.
From this arrangement it should be un-' derstoodthat the upper portion of the bars 8 will lie flat upon the outer faces of the package of papers or letters, and the coils will be displaced outwardly so as to adapt themselves to this position of the arm 7. As the number of papers or letters increases, the arm 7 is, of course, forced outwardly. The

well known stamping process, and the device where they are bent ips operate as efficient guides in as I holder, the said letters "being pushed down-- force of the springs 10\pre ssing the bars 8 hooks 5 then operate as guides for the bars 8. The bar 9 o crates as a handle to facilitatepapers when de'' The arm 7 is adapted to be formed of stout they can be displaced outwardly when the .1. be readily stamped from sheet metal by the i Patented-n54, mos.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as ne and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1.' In adevice of the class described, in combination, a plate adapted to be fixed to a su ort and havin extensions constituting gm es at the ends t creof, an arm having oppositely disposed bSF dis osed adjacent to said respective guides an guided thereby, said arm having resilient coils and shanks therebeyond, said shanks having their ends attached to said late.
2; A device 0 the class described, comprising a plate having a transverse sleeve and guides formed at the ends thereof, an arm presenting oppositely dis osed bars assing downwardly through sair guides and avin resilient coils formed at the lower ends thereof, and shanks formed beyond said coils, said shanks having wrists mounted in said sleeve.
3. A device of the class described, comprising a wall plate having a transverse sleeve, and guide hooks formed at the ends thereof, an arm presentin oppositely disposed bars extendin verticaily downward through said guide 1100 respectively, and having resilient coils formed at the lower ends thereof, shanks beyond said coils having pivots received in ,2 v same-1' said sleeve, the upper ends of said arms being bent outwardly to form curved guide lips,
and a transverse bar connecting the 11 per ends of said arms and offset outwardly rom the plane thereof.
4. A device of the class described, com prising a wall plate having a transverse sleeve on the upper edge thereof, and guide hooks formed at the ends thereof, said guide hooks being bills projecting inwardly toward the plane 0 oil'set outwardly, and havin said wall plate, an arm having oppositely disposed 1parallel bars extending downwardly throng said hooks and having coils formed at a oint below said hooks, said coils having formed therebeyond extending upshan wardly, said shanks having pivots formed thereon received in the ends of said sleeve, the upper ends of said arms having, outwardly curved guide lips, said arms being connected beyond said guide lips by a transverse bar ofi'set outwardly from the plane thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in thepresence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADELL DELMAR ALBRECHT.
