DEVICE FOR LIFTING DOCUMENTS, &c., OFF FILES OF ANY KIND.
No.v 895,268.
Specification of Letters Patent. l
Patented Aug. 4, 1908.
pplication filed November 13: 1907. Serial No. 402,809.
T o allwlom. vi may concern:
-Be itknown that I, ALFRED Hnioniiaxx,
ing at Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Lifting Documents, &c., Off
specification.
My invention relates to an improved device for lifting documents such as letters, bills etc. off files of any kind, the device being Files of a'nv Kind, of which the following is a i so constructed that the documents rest on a shovel-like blade or board, on which they are pressed by clamps of different lengths, so that said documents are ke )t in relative position and the tubes formed by the perforations of each sheet remain unimpaired. As a consequence such documents, after selecting the one desired, can easily be replaced.
The device cemprises two or more' )airs of clamps pivoted on a common axis at tile back of the shovel-like blade. Said clam s are. arranged' beside. and independent o each other, in such a manner that, on raising said clamps, the shovel-like blade or boardis not raised or brought into an inclined position. Said clamps however are so disposed with regard to each other that on raising one of the same the others are likewise raised, the pressure on the documents beinguniformly distributed.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention ine device is shown by way of example in: Figure I in side elevation, Fig. 2 in back elevation and in Fig. 3 in plan.
The shovel-like blade or board 1 rests on a doubly bent fork-shaped a'rm 2, at the free end of which a handle 3 is brovided., On this handle is provided, behind the back 4 an axis 5, which supports the clamps. The lattcr consist of two pairs of wires 6, 7 and S, 9 of dill'erent lengths, which are connected together by transverse rods 10 11, 12, 123 and 16 and are supported on the axis 5 by sleeves 14. Thel clamps are so disposed with regard to each other that one pair 8, 9 is situated inside the other pair 6, 7; by which arrangement. it is assured that, in raising'` the inner mir, the outer pair will be lifted liy the cro ATo the inner pair of clamps 8, 9 is secured a handle which is so arn'mged that it can be grasped at the same time as the handle 3.
On the handle 3 two springs 17, 18 are pro vided beside each other which act on t-he cross rods 11 and 16. Owingto the arrangement, manner of support-ing and differentlengths of the clamps, it is assured that one short and one long arm of each pair ofk the clamps actson each half of the board 1; so that, in using the device, it is well balanced and all of the documents are kept in position, no matt-er what their size may be, while the blade or board 1 is prevented from taking an inclined position, owing to the clamps being hinged to the back thereof.
The device is used/as follows: The handles 3 and 15 are grasped at same time, the clamps 8 and 9 being thus raised and being caused to raise the clamps 6 and 7 by pressing against the cross barl 11. The device, with the clamps so raised, is then pushed into the pile of documents and the handles 3 and 15 released. All the documents between the clamps and the bot-tom board are then securely kept in position, so that theycannot become dis )laced when lifted off the file.
lVhat I c aim and desire to secure by Let tels Patent is: y
1. A device for lifting documents off files and the like comprising in combination, a board, two clamps adapted to press on said board, a handle to open one of the said clam s and means causing this clamp to open t e other clam )when opened.
2. The herein before described device, comprising in combination, a board, an axis at the rear edge of same, a long clamp .with handle on said axis, a short clamp thereon so arranged that the long clamp is located inside the short one, -springs pressing said clamps on the board, and means whereby the long clamp operates to open the short clamp.
3. The hereinbefore described device, comprising in combination, a board, a handle attached to said board, clamps adapted to press on said board, a handle attached to one of said clamps and means to transfer the movement of this clamp to the other clamp.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. i ALFRED HEYDEMANN.
