To all whom it may concern: i

Be it known that I, REINIIARD SCHNEIDER, a resident of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Billiard and Pool Table; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description t l1ereof.

My invention relates to combined billiard and pool tables and has for its object to provide a cheap and simple form of such table whereby' it can be readily, conveniently and quickly transformed into a billiard or pool table, and without the employmentof special devices or complicated mechanisms orparts.

My invention consists, gcncralh st ed, in the novel arrangement, constructi and combination of parts, as specifically-set forth and described and ticularly pointed out in the claims.

Toenable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to construct and use my improved table, 1 will describe the same more fully, referring to the accompanyng drawing, in which Figure l is a plan view of a table showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-section through the rail and cushion showing the manner of holding said cushion in position. Fig. 3 is o. sido-clmation of the connecting bolt and its connections for holding said cushion. Fig. 4 is another like view of the some showing it in another position. Figs. 5 and 6 are views of the slotted plate employed with the cushion for the connecting bolt.

As illustrated in said drawing A represents my, improved zblc which is provided with the usual rail 1 extending above and around the usual slate bed 2 resting upon the frame 3 which mil is provided with the usual cloth cover .2 over the same and secured to said frame 3. The bolts 12 can then be turncd by their levers 19 5 within their openings 12 so that the heads 13 thereon will be placed at right angles to the slotted opening 14 in the plates 15 and within the recesses 16, after which each of said levers can be pushed back to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3. This will permit the cam faces 20 on the levers 19 to engage with the plates 17 on the bolts 12 and will force said plates against the face of the rail 1 while the heads 13 on said bolts within the recesses 16 will thereby be brought against the body of the lates 15 and thereby lock and securely hold t e cushions 6 directly against said rail.

\Vhen it is desired to detach and remove 20 the cushions 6 from the rail 1 -for converting the table A into a pool table or for any other purpose, all that is required is to pull out the overs It) to the position shown in Fig. 2 and turn the bolts 12 so that the heads 13 thereon will come opposite the opening 14 in the plates 15. After this is done the cushions 6 can be removed from the rail 1 and table, and the cushions for pool playing laced on the table and against the sides 0 said rail, so that when in position such cushions will have their angular ends 10 come in line with the angular ends 10' on the rails 1" to permit access of the playing ba-lls'to the poc ets 4, and then said cushions can be secured and s5 locked in place on said rail in the manner herein before described.

It will beobvious that in case it is desired to remove any one or all of the bolts 12 from the rail 1 for the purpose of repairing 40 or replacing the same it can be accomplished by snnpl forcing out the pivot pins 18 through t e levers 19 and ends of said bolts,

when said bolts can be forced inward through their openings 12 in the rail and be removed therefrom.

It will thus be seen that my improved combined billiard and pool table can be converted into one or the other form easily .and rapidly and by any unskilled person,

as practical experience mas proven, and it does not require any special design of table or cushion as in ordinary cases, or the |.-mplo 'ment of separate blocks or parts of cusiions for fitting between the cushions pro )er and over the pockets.

'I he parts are sim lo and easy to'handle and operate and wil not be liable to come in contact with the person or wearing a parel of the parties using-the same. Th s parts are also strong and durable and will not get out of order, while at the same time the cushions are held securely locked in place and will be as firm for-playing upon as it permanently attached to the table.

Various modifications and changes in the 0.; construction and design of my combined billiard and pool table may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is':-

1. In a combined billiard and pool table, the combination of the rail, cushions fitting directly against said rail, bolts on said rad and connected to said cushions, and cam devices on said bolts for holding said cushions against said rail and for permitting the sameto be detached therefrom.

2. In a combined billiard and pool table, i the combination of the rail, cushions fittin r so directly a ainst said rail, plates on saiil cushions, bolts on said rails having heads thereon for engaging with said plates, and cam-devices on said bolts for holding said cushions against said rail and for permitting 55 the same to be detached therefrom.

3. In a combined billiard and pool table the combination of the rail, cushions fitting directly against said rail, plates on said cushions having slotted openings therein, 9-; bolts on said rail having heads. thereon for passing through said openings and into said cushions, and cam-levers on said bolts for locking the cushions in position against said. rail and for iermitting the same to be, dctarhed there rom.

4. In a combined billiard and pool table, the combination of the rail, cushions fitting directly against said rail, plates on said cushions having slotted openings therein, bolts onsaid rail having heads thereon for passing through said openings and into said cushions, washers or plates on said bolts and adapted to engage with said rail, and v com-levers on said bolts for engaging with said washers to luck said cushions in position against the rail and for permitting the same to he dctriphcd therefrom.
