' ALEXANDEE v. BAKER AND DANIEL n. BAKER, OF ROCKY, OKLAHOMA.
EQUALIZER.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALEXANDER V. Rama and DANIEL M. BAKER, citizens of the United States, residing at Rocky, in the 5, enmity of lVashita, Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Equalizers, of which the following is a specition. This invention relates to draft appliances, 1e4 md more particularly to draft equalizers, andinas for its object to provide an equalizer 'will be simple in structure and arrangement and which Willpresent a combination E parts adjustable to suit different condi- ,15; time.
Another object is to provide an equalizer which may be manufactured at a low figure.
@ther objects and advantages will be apfrom the following description and it f it' be understood that changes in the .speem structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without carting from the spirit oi the invention.
the drawin s forming a portion of this sjpeiication, an in which like numerals of rellerence indicate similar parts in the several views', Figure 1 is a top plan view of the ai sent equalizer; Fig. 2 is a iront elevation; iig. 3 is a side elevation; Fig. 4 is a section 3ft Vline 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring new to the drawings, the present mvention comprises an attaching member 5 s longitudinally from its rear end' to form center tongues 6 and on intermediate tongue 'E'. The outer tongues are bent upwardly to transversel alining eyes which, with a,
` 8 engaged t ierebetween, receive a ivot w )9, it bem(r understood that the yo e is -ned to tlie vehicle or apparatus with which the present equalizer is used.
The intermediate tongue 7 is bent forwardly over the attaching member 5, and a transversely extending lever 10 is pivoted adjacent to`\.\one end between the tongue 7 and the attaching member, upon a pivot breit 11. A longitudinal slot 12 is formed in attaching member, forwardly or" the lever Il@ .and receives a bolt 13 engaged in the rear Ward portion of a lon itudinally extending "a plate 14 which is thus s idable with respect to \\the attaching member, and this plate has a painted rearward end portion 15 which is ared to t at times into a notch 16 formed im tli-f rWard edge of the lever 10, to hold the leveragainst movement. The bolt 13 may be operated to hold the sliding plate 14 Specification of Letters Patent. Y Appuaa'uon mea my za 1907'. serial No. 386,153.
Patterned Aug. 4, 190s.
at different points of its movement, as will be understood. The forward end of the attachlng member 5 is bifurcated, as shown at 17,
and bctuccn the resultant spaced portions, a l i bolt 1S 1s slidably enga O'ed, which is carried by the plate 14. there being thus formed a j guide for the forward portion of the plate.
A lever 19 is pivoted adjacent to one end upon t-he plate 14 and extends with its major 65 portion at thc same side of the attaching member with the major portion of the lever 10, and the outer ends of these levers 10 and 19 are connected by a pivoted link 20. A
forwardly extending link 21 is hinged to the 70 o posite end of the lever 10, this end being t iat adjacent to the pivot point of 'the lever, and the link l21 is pivoted at its forward end to a laterally extending arm 22 which alines with an'il is lgivoted to the adjacent end ofthe 75 lever19, the )ivot )oint of the link 21 and arm 22 being ocated adjacent to the. pivoted end of the arm. An arm 23 is pivoted at its inner end to the forward end of the sliding plate 14, and a link 24 connects the lever 19 80 with the arm 23, the pivotal connection of the link with tb e arm being located adjacent to the inner end of the latter, and the point of connection of the link ith the lc ver 19 bein between tlu-I linl: 2O and the point of pivota 85 connection of the lever 19 with the plate 14. The arm2 thus extends at a common side of the equalizer with the major portion of the levers 10 and 19.
Vhat is claimed is: A
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with an attaching member cut at one end to form a pair of Outer tongues and an intervei'iing intermediate tongue, said outer tongues being bent to form alining eyes, said intermei'liate tongue being bent 110 upon the attaching member in spaced relation thereto, of a lever pivoted between4 saidintermediate tongue and the attaching member.
'2.' Ir. a draft equalizer, the combination with a member of a lever ivoned thereupon, said ever having a noter therein, a plate slidaolymounted upon the member and arranged for movement to engage one endin the notch to hold the lever against movement, elements pivotally connemed with the plate and connections between said elements and I`the lever.
3. In a draft equalizer the combination with an atta-ching member, oa lever pivted vupon the attaching member, a plate slidably connected with the attaching member, means for holding the plate at different oints of its movement, a lever pivoted upenn t e late, an arm )ivoted at one end to an end or the second ever, connections between the first and second levers, and connections between the first lever and the arm.
4. .In a draft-equalizer, the combinationv tures, in presence of two witnesses.
