Description

LYMAN C. ROGERS,A lOF MANCELONA, MICHIGAN.
FLUTE-CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4, 1908.
Application led March 12, 1907. Serial No. 362,037.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN C. ROGERS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Mancelona, in the county of Antrim and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful vImprovements in `Flue- Cleaners, of which the following isl a specification.
This invention relates to Hue cleaners, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a Hue cleaner in which the cleaning ead may be readily attached and detache to and from the handle, and in which interchangeable heads may be readily connected to the handle.
Another object of the invention is to provide a Hue cleaner with a head provided with a peripheral groove for the attachment of the cleaning element, and providing means whereby the heads may be quickly attached to the handle of the cleaner.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanyin drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a p an view of one of the Hue cleaner heads, a portion of the same being broken away to illustrate the manner of securing the cleaning element in said head.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the cleaner head and showing the manner of securing the head to the handle bar. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing a diHerent form of cleaning element secured to the head. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the head shown in Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numerals 1 designate the two members of the Hue cleaning head which are secured together by means of rivets 2 or other similar fastening means. Formed in the periphery of the members 1 is a groove or recess 3, said groove being of suflicient depth to provide oppositely disposed side clamping members 4.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a series of wire -coils 5 formed from a continuous strand of wire are secured in the head by means of a holding wire 6 passed through the coils and drawn tightly in the groove 3 between the head members 1, the wire coils being compressed by means of the members 4.
Av ring 7 of felt, rubber, leather, or other suitable material, may be secured in the groove 3 betweeny the head members l, as
shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The handle 8 of the cleaner is provided with a threaded end 9 and Htted on s aid threaded end is a nut 10. The threaded portion 9 is passed through the head members 1 and a lock nut 11 is applied to the threaded end to hold the head in place.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that in cleaning a Hue or chimney the head shown in Figs. 1 and 2 may be quickly removed and replaced by another such as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, merely by the removal of the nut 11.
My invention is of simple construction, and has been found very efficient in cleaning chimneys and Hues.
Having thus described the invention, what LYMAN C. ROGERS.
