Description

lUNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
JAMES B. PULLMAN, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUBSOlL-PLOW.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 89,432, dated April 27, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JAMES B. PULLMAN, of Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and usefulv Improvement in SubsoiLPlows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specifica-tion, in which- Figure l is a side View of the stock and colter and a sectional view ofthe share. Fig. 2 is a front view of the coltcr and share from a section through the beam in front of the cclter.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to provide a subsoil of light draft and eiiective action.
It consists in the combination of a share of peculiar construction with a colter having a concave cutting-edge, both being axed to a plowstock of the usual construction.
In the drawings, A B O is the plow-stock, to which my improvements are attached. The colter I) has a concave cutting-edge, and its upper end is formed with a bolt-shank, which passes through the beam, and is secured by a nut, el. The lower end of the colter is affixed to the share a short distance in rear of the point f of the latter. The share is curved vertically, as shown, and is formed with a V- shaped cross-section, as indicated in Fig. l.
Itis further formed with a triangular flat base, g f g, from which the rear and concave edges l1J h spring. The share is again widened at t' o', from which points the edges j j taper. This formation of the share delivers the subsoil oft' laterally, workin g some of it to the top of the furrow. The share is bolted to the stock by the bolts a and e and to the coltcr by the bolt b.
Gr is a heel-plate or brace-plate, which is affixed to the part B and the share by the respective bolts a and b. This plate serves to strengthen the attachment of the share, and to increase longitudinally the base-surface ot' the share, thereby conducing to its more stead y movement.
The share and coltcr are usually of steel and the heel-plate of iron. The share and colter .are readily taken apart to sharpen them.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcnt- The combination, in a subsoil-plow, of the share E, colter D, and heel-plate G with the stock A B O, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
JAMES B. PULLMAN. Vitnesses:
