To all whom it may concern:
Be it known lthat I, Louis HEISER, a citi'- zen of the United States of America, residing at New Haven, in the county ofSt. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Beet-Harvesters, of which t ie following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. This invention relates' to beet harvesters and consists in the matters hereinafter set forth, and more particularly pointed out in lthe ap ended claims.4 In t e drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, with. artsgnnoken;awa-y1-i of-abeet vharvester emboilyingfeatures--of-theiiriverktion. 'Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a substantial rectangular main frame, whose forward end7 is carried on a caster wheel 2 journaled in' an upright fork 3, whose stern 4 turns in a guide bracket 5, and is rigidly connected to a pole 6. The body'of the frame is supported 0n a pair of parallel upright stems 7 longitudinally adjustable in guide brackets 8 by means of properly disposed links 9 and independent levers 10 having latches 11 'locking with quadrants 12, splines 13, keys or the like reventing rotation of the stems in the brac ets. A traction bearing Wheel is journ'aled cna stub axle14 or stud on each stem. The s indle 22 is vertically adjustable by a latch ever 30 interlocking with a quadrantl 31, and having a link 32 and curved fork bar 33, embracing a hanged collar 34 on the spindle, the fork bar riding on a cross-brace 35 of the main frame and acting as a rear brace Ato the spindle.
The other traction bearing wheel 36 is operatively connect-ed through a sprocket wheel 37 secured to its hub, a chain 38 and pinion 39 to a horizontal crank shaft 40 journaled near each end in a bearing 41 on the outer end of an arm 42 ivoted at its inner end 43 the main frame 1, a rock a quadrant 48 affording vertical adjustment of the shaft.
Aplurality of tedder forks 49 having blunt or bulbous ended prongs 50 are pivoted between their ends on the several cranks 51 of the shaft 40 and at their u per extremities to the outer ends of links 52 liung at their inner. ends to the frame. The lifting' or pulling means consists of a prgperly shaped' share 53 rigidly connected to the lower end of a goose neck 54 pivoted near its bend on a cross-bolt 55 to acrossmember of the main frame, the horizontal end extending loosely through a stirrup 56 `at the front end of the frame and having a segmental plate 57 with aseries of apertures 58 y whereby the clevis pin of a cross-tree may be secured. The share 53- is centrally. arranged between the traction bearing wheels while thetopper knife is offset therefrom, so that the share runs to one side of the row the knife is topping. i
In operation, the draft is a plied directly to the share whose depthvof fhrrow is regulated by adjustment of the frame vertically on" the traction wheels, so that the main resistance is not communicated to the frame.
IThe knife with its steadying balance wheel slices the tops olf and throws them to one side, while the tedder forks, adjusted to penetrate slightly below the loosened dirt thrown up by the share kick the loosened 'beets out and leave them on the top of the ground ready for loading.
It is to be understood that the usual lubri-- eating and adjusting means are provided, although not shown, the details of construction following the lines of good practice.
Obviously, changes in the details of construction. may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention and l do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrai'igement of parts.
What l. claim as my invention is l. ln a beet harvester, the combination of a main frame whose forward end is carried by a caster guide wheel and whose body is supported by a. pair ol' traction bearing wheels independently adjustable vertically therein,
with a rotatable cutter vertically adjustable in the frame operated by one of the traction wheels, a lifting share between the traction wheels carried by a goose'neek draft beam pivoted between its ends to the frame and provided at its forward end with means for securing a draft rigging thereto, and a gang of oscillating tedder forks to rear of the lifter driven by the other traction wheel.

3. ln a beet harvester, the combination of a main frame whose forward end is carried by a Caster guide wheel and whose body is supported by a pair of traction bearing wheels independently adjustable vertically therein, a rotatable spindle vertically adjustable in the frame, a `knife having substantially radial blades secured to the lower end thereof,
a balance wheel on the upper end of the shaft, a horizontal shaft operatively connected by chain and sprocket to one of said traction bearing wheels, a bevel gear thereon, a bevel pinion meshing therewith having non-rotatable sliding engagement with the spindle, a lifting share between the traction wheels carried by a goose neck draft beam pivoted between its ends to the frame and provided at its forward end with means for securing a draft rigging thereto, and a gang of oscillating tedder forks to rear of the lifter driven by the other traction wheel.
