LAVATORY.
specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21, 1908.
Application filed. February 24, 1906. Serial No. 302,768
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oIINll. GAVIN, a oiti zen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook' and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful IIn movement in Lavatories', of which the followhig is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lavatories.
My invention consists in the novel ,constructionof parts and devices and in the arts and devices herein shown and descri ed and more particularly specified,- in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing fonnin a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a p an view of a lavatorv embodyin my invention. Fig. 2 1s a verticalsection on me 2---2 of Fig.
1. Fig; 3 is a vertical'section on line 33 of Figl- 1 and Fig. 4 isa vertical section on line In the rawing, A represents a one piece lavatory of porcelain, earthenware or other suitable material having a bowl' portion B, a rim or table portion C, an integral back portion .D, a depending apron E, an overflow passage F and a raised tumbler shelf or lder extending horizontally from the upper portion of the back D and perforated at'the corner portion thereof-if the lavatory is of the corner type. The tumbler shelf or holder H is furnished with-a removable erforated disk'h fitting in a circular recess t of the tumbler-shelf or'hold'er H. The iavato T is .also rovided through .itsupright bac with a rain passage F coInnIunIca'ting with the overflow passage F so that water drip ping from the tuiublefor from the faucet above the tumbler may escape into the overflow passageF and throu h It into the-waste passage F which is close by the customary lu in the bottom wall I) of the bowl B. The ac -wall 1) of the bowl has near the top thereof an overflow opening I) communicating with the overflow passage F. The-lava-- tory A is further provided with a recess or depression C in the table or rim C for holding wit raised ribs C with a drain The lavato soa the samebeing preferably furnished assa e 'G communicating with the interior oi the owl.
s further provided .preferabl with a supp y passage G, the walls 9 of whic are integralwith the lavatory. And this 'supp'ly'passage is preferabl 554ml overhanging lip g to eflect the water furnished with prefera 1y provided with an against the back wall of the bowl and prevent silashin'g. The lavatory is further opening 0 above the overflow passage F in t e'table or rim portion C to receive the lifting rod or device by which the plug or valve that closes the waste opening in the bottom of the bowl is operated.
All the different parts or walls of my lavatorv are integral with each other, being molded or cast in one piece. As the lass holder or shelf H is at or near the top 0 the back D, there is no danger of the glass tumbler being accidentally broken as'is the case where a seat for its rece tion'is provided on 7 the level of the rim of t e bowl, and as my raised glass holder or shelf H is furnished with'a drain passage communicating with the overflow assage 'and waste passage of the bowl, my improved lavatory is of a very 7'5 neat, clean and sanitary construction.
Ic laim:-' l. A single piece lavatory com rising a bowl, an overflow passage for the owl, an
upright back projecting above theuppermost rim of the bowl, a tumbler holder or shelf at the up er -ortion of the back and a drain passage ea ing therefrom and oommunicating. with the overflow passage, the
walls of said drain 'passa e and overflow pass5 Inunicatingwith the overflow passage, the wells of sald drain'passage and overflow passage and of the bowl and back bein all Integral with each other, said tumbler bolder on shelf havinga recess and. provided with a j perforated disk fitting in said recess, sub
stantially as specified. 3. In a one piece corner lavatory comprising-a bowl, an overflow assage extending from the upper-portionlo the bowl. to the waste passage, an upright corner shaped back projecting above the uppermost'rim of the bowl and provided at the cornerjthereof with a recess for holding a tumbler and a drain passa e, extending therefrom through the corner 0 the upright back and commu- 110.
owl, an i 90 nicating with the overflow passage of the bowl, subtantially as specified. 4. In a. one piece corner lavatory comprising a bowl, an overflow assage extending from the upper portion 6 the bowl to the, waste passage, an upright corner shaped back projectmgabove the uppermost rim of. the bowl and provided at the corner thereof with a recess for'holding a'tumbler and a drain passage extending therefrom through the corner of the upright back and communicating with the overflow passage of the bowl, said bowl having also in its rim vor table ortiona soap holder depression furmg from the .upper portion 0 nishe with a drain passage communicating with the bowl, substantially as specified.
