AUGUST W. BEBBER, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
STEAM-GENERATING SYSTEM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21, 1908.
Application filed October 30, 1907. Serial No. 399,838.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST W. BEBBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Steam-Generating System, of which the following is a specification.
It is a well known fact that the higher the pressure of steam in a boiler, the higher is the temperature thereof. For instance, starting with .no pressure and a temperature of 212 degrees F., the boiling point, the temperature at 300 pound pressure is 121.83 F. From this, it will be evident that steam at high pressure may be employed from a single boiler to generate steam at a lower pressure in a number of boilers, and the primary object of the present invention is to provide novel, simple and practicable mechanism for thus generating steam.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is an end elevation of the system. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the steam heaters for a secondary boiler, the shell of such boiler being indicated in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the upper head of the steam heater. Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view through the heater.
Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the embodiment illustrated, the primary boiler is designated 5 and may be of any well known or desired construction, being provided with a suitable furnace 6, gage mechanism 7, and a steam dome 8 having a safety valve 9. The secondary boilers, of which there may be any number found practicable, are designated generally by the reference numeral 10. Each of these secondary boilers consists of a shell 11 suitably supported as shown at 12 and having a steam dome 13 from which leads a suitable supply pipe 14. Gage mechanism 15 and a safety valve 16 are provided for each boiler. VVithin the shell of each secondary boiler is located a steam heater composed of heads 17 and 1S and connecting pipes 19. The heads comprise upper and lower horizontal pipes 20 connected by spaced vertical pipes 21. The pipes 19 which are disposed longitudinally within the shell are connected to the vertical pipes 21. The heater, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, is set at an inclination so that the front head is located higher than the rear headv Asteam supply pipe 23 leading from the dome 8 of the primary boiler, has a suitable controlling valve 24 therein and branches 25,
leading from this supply pipe 23, extend.
through the front end of the different shells 11 of the secondary boilers and are coupled to the lowermost horizontal pipes 20 of the front or higher heads of the steam heaters. Suitable valves 26 are located in the branches 25. A blow off ipe 27 for each heater is connected to the bottom of the rear or lower head, and extends at an inclination downwardly and forwardly through the front end of the shell, being provided with a suitable controlling valve 28. A suitable water feed pipe 29 is provided for each boiler and has a controlling valve 30. The water line is indicated at 31.
With this construction, high pressure steam can be generated in the primary boiler 5 and supplied to different secondary boilers 1.0, as heating medium therefor. This heat ing medium serves to raise steam in the boilers 10, as will be evident. system whereby steam can be generated for a number of plants with great economy and without the necessity of a furnace at each steam generator.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction, operation and many advan tages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a system of the character set forth, the 100 combination with a primary steam generator, of a secondary steam generator or boiler comprising an elongated tubular water holding shell, a steam heater located in the shell and composed of vertically disposed heads lo cated at different heights and having vertically arranged spaced pipes and parallel pipes connecting the heads and connected to The result is a the vertical pipes of said heads, said parallel In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as pipes extending longitudinally of the shell my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature and being set at an inclination, a steam supply in the presence of two witnesses.
pipe leading from the primary boiler and con- 1 AUGUST W. BEBBER. nected to the lower portion of the upper head Witnesses:
