Application filed July 29, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. REDING- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paste-Cups, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in paste cups or mucilage holders, or similar devices; and its object is to increase the efficiency of devices of this class.
The invention consists in substantially the construction set forth in the subjoined specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Like letters refer to similar parts in the several figures of the drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of the cup and the cover Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the cup with the upper section of the water well removed; Fig. 3 is a detail view of the removable section of the water well.
The reference letter A designates the paste or mucilage cup proper, which may be made of glass, porcelain, or other suitable material, and having the usual external form.
B designates an integral partition in such cup, which extends a short distance from the bottom thereof, and which, of course, is made of the same material as the cup; this partition may be made of any suitable shape,
ut is preferably and conveniently made of a cylindrical shape, as shown in the drawing.
C designates a removable section of the water well, which is preferably of a height practically that of the cup, and the lower end of which rests upon the bottom of the cup adjacent to the partition. Manifestly, it is to be made so as to be guided, or partly guided, by such partition and form a removable extension thereof, so far as that portion is concerned which extends above such integral partition. The lower edge of this removable section of the water well or extension of the partition rests loosely upon the bottom of the cup, so that it does not make a water-tight joint, and consequently the water in such well will pass under the bottom of such removable extension of the partition and over the top of the integral partition into contact with the paste, mucilage or other material in the cup, thereby tending to keep the same 'moist.

able extension or section thereof cylindrical, with the external diameter of the removable extension sufficiently less than the internal diameter of the integral partition, so that it may snugly fit within and be guided by it, but this form of partition is not essential to the principle of the invention. It will be further observed that while the water in this water well, composed of the integral and removable partitions, will freely pass out of said well to the paste in the manner described, yet there will always be retained practically the height of water equivalent to the height of the integral partition in the water well, whereby the brush is kept moist by such water remaining in said well.
In practice it is believed that by the re movable partition resting loosely upon the bottom of the on in the manner described sufficient egress or the water will be pro vided, yet it is not desired to limit the invention to this manner of affording communication, for it will be evident to those skilled in the art that many modifications may be made in the details of the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A aste cup or mucilage holder provided with a paste chamber, a short integral partition for forming a water well, and a removable extension of such partition, the integral and removable partitions being provided with passages therefrom to the paste within the chamber.
2. A paste cup or mucilage holder provided with a water well made in two parts, one of which is integral and of less height than the chamber, and the other of which is of greater height than the former and rests loosely upon the bottom of the cup.
3. A paste cup or mucilage holder provided with a paste chamber and a water well chamber composed of two parts, one of which is integral with the bottom of the cup and extends to a short distance above the same, and the other of which is removable and rests loosely upon the bottom of said cup so as to permit the passage of the water from the same and over the integral partition.
4. A paste cup or mucilage holder provided with a paste chamber and a water chamber, the latter composed of two parts, one of which is a short water-tight tube projecting from the bottom of the cup and the other of which is a removable tube of impervious material guided by the first tube but having a loose contact therewith whereby the water is permitted to pass from the water chamber between the removable tube and the short tube into contact with the paste.
5. A aste cup or mucilage holder provided with a paste chamber and a water chamber, the latter composed of two parts, one of which is a short section projecting from the bottom of the cup and the other of which is a longer section arranged in loose contact with the shorter one whereby the water is ermitted to pass from the water chamber etween the surfaces of the short and the long sections of the partition.
6. A aste cup or mu'cilage holder pro videdw1th a paste chamber and a water chamber, the latter formed of two parts, one of which is a short, cylindrical and water tight section projecting from the bottom of the cup and the other of which is a removable cylindrical extension guided by and in loose contact with the shorter section whereby a passage for the water between the contacting surfaces of these sections is provided.
