"To all whom-it may concern: g g
Be it known that I, FRANKE;T$;- a-0iti zen of the United States, residing at" Indianapolis, in the county ofLMarion and State of thereof, the-invention having reference particularly to adjustable'drags of the abovementioned character. V
Objects of the inventionareto provide a relatively light weight strong drag adapted to be constructed at inoderate'expensd'and to provide a drag of sim 1e constructionthat may be adjusted'leadl y so -asto -o erat'e equally-well on either hard "or relative y soft roads-surfaced either with. earth or w ith" gravelw a The invention consists an improved drag=comprising an angle iiron frame, scrapingblades of improved.- construction, connected iii a novelmanner to the frame so, as
.to be adjustable relatively thereto, and imroved adjustin and controlling mechanism or the blades, t invention consisting fur? ther in the parts and combinations and'ar f a body part of the lever m", the atter be ng prorangement's of parts as herein terparticw larly described and defined in 31c appended v Referring to the drawings Figure 1 isaperspective view-of the improved drag ;'Fig.'- 2,

and b that areslightly longerthan the i beams, an angle iron brace 0- being secured to to the beam a near the rear end thereof, a
similar brace 0 being secured to the forward end portion of the beam b and also to the rear end portion of the beam a, and a platform d composed of either wood or metal is placed upon the beams'and secured on the top thereof by bolts e and e, the beams being parallel one to another, and the platform'extending across the middle ortionsof the beams. nected to the forward end thereof and a similar rod f is connected to'the forward end of c for draft purposes. The blades h and h areformed preferabl of relatively thin sheet rods and has a link g "thereon that maybe am ably to the rear sides thereof, the plates having angle flangesj and y" respectively that .areflush with the tops of the blades; An arm'7c has a foot k by which it is secured on the top of the flange j, the arm bein preferably composed of two thicknesses .o iron; so
vided'with a uidefinger m" arranged somea arid'extends between the lever wt and the finger m", the bar having holes 0 therein. The lever m has ears p formed thereon to Whiclral'latch lever q is pivoted, the lower end to that normally enters either of the holes 0 and extends -through a hole 0'- that refer-- sgli'ly is formed in the lever m, the late fiiolt em press ed tofits normal position by a s of the latch lever. A pair of 3 arms t and t are rigidly secured on the tops of the flanges j and 3 respectively, and'the tops of the arinsl are connected by a coupling rod if, the arms being connected to the beam 6 by pivots v and 2). Two similar arms 14; 'and w'. are rigr idl a tached to the o osite end ortions of y t, PP P ethe beam-b near the forward end thereof and' The beam 1; has'a raft rod f conthe beam b, a chain 9 being connected to the steel; and have p ates i and'z" secured'suitwhat above t e pivot n". A curved-latch bar 9 is suitably attached to tl ebeams a and of the lever having a latch bolt 1 secured therel uided in the finger m'. and springrm s the flanges? and y" and are connected-to the and-having. also a plurality of arms pivoted beam 6 by pivots x ands, the ends of; the arms being connected together by aeou'pling; rod 11/ by means of pivots y and y, the rod it having pivots z and 2 so that all of the arms that are attached to the flanges of the blades willoperatesimultaneously, the ivots-of the arms that are attached to'the ange of the blade k'being" in alinement, and the pivots of the other; arms being in alinement; v It will-be understood that the above descrip'tion'refers to the drag in its most simple formof construction, and thatadditional blades may/be employed if desired and arranged similarly to those abovedescribed. V In practicaluse i'fit is desiredto move the drag squarely, the link 9 should be connected .to the mjddle'linkof the chain @butif one end of the drag is'to be drawn ahead-of-the 0 posite end, then the link g .should be s ted to a suitable position at either side of a main at the desired the middle of the chain, and the link reends ;0f two otherlinks. 'The lever mshould bemoved andadjust'ed so as to adjust the blades to suit requirements, the driver standing; on the platform d. a The results of opera- 80 Having 1s claime tion willreadily be understood from the foregoingdescription.
thus described the invention, what as new is.

2. A road drag including a frame comprising two end beams and two main beams between the end beams, each end beam having a plurality ofv arms pivoted thereto, a pinrality of blades each attached to a plurality of the arms, an' arm pivoted to the two-main ver and pivoted also to the arm that is piv-l ote'd to the main beams, a curved latch bar beams and attached to one of the blades, a lever pivoted to. the two main beams and attached to another one of the blades, a coupling rod pivoted at one end thereof to the leattached to the two main beams, and a latch mounted on the lever to engage the latch bar.
8. Aroad drag including two end beams having each an angle brace attached thereto osition,,being designed toiengage'eith'er lin flatwise'between th'e ver and said arms extending up beyond the beams, a plurality of blades one of which is attached to a plurality of the arms and an- "other one of which is attached to the lever and also to a plurality of the arms, a coupling rod pivoted to the lever and also to the arm that is pivoted to the two main beams, said rod bein arranged in a plane above the main beams, a coupling rod connected to an arm "of one of the blades and also to an arm' of another one of the blades above the plane ofthe beams, a coupling rod connected to an-. other. arm of one of the blades'and also to an: other arm of another one of the blades above the plane of the beams, and a draft chain connected with the two end beams.
4. In a road drag, the combination of a frame comprising a plurality of main beams, a plurality of end beams that are longer than the main beams, an angle brace attached to the forward end of one of the end beams and to the rear end of one of" the main beams, an angle brace attached to the forward end of the other end beam, and to the rear end of the other main beam, and a platform extending across the middle portions of the plurality of beams and secured thereto, with draftlinks connected to the forward ends of the end beams near the angle braces, and blades connected with the beams.
5. In a road drag, the combination. of a plurality of end beams having each a draft rod connected thereto, a chain connected to the draft rods, a each a flange at the top thereof and each flange having a plurality of arms secured thereto, one of the flanges having a lever secured thereto that has a latch thereon, a plurality of main beams, a pivot connecting the lever to the main'beams, pivots connecting one of the arms to the main beams, pivots connecting the remaining arms to the end beams, coupling rods connecting one of the arms with the lever, coupling rods connecting the remaining arms of one blade with the arms of another blade, and a latch bar secured to the main beams to be engaged by the latch.
