Description

N0. 893,247. l i PATENTED JULY 14, 1908.
E. G. KILLERBR'UE'l CHRISTMAS TREE HOLDER. APPLIUATI'ON FILED PEB. 4v, 1907.
' NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ENGLY GILES KILLERBRE, OF KENOSHA, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO JOSEPH A. PITTS, OF
KENOSHA, WISCONSIN.
CHRISTMAS-TREE HOLDER.
.Patented July 14, 190s.
Application filed February 4, 1907. Serial No. 355,576.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ENGLY GILEs KILLER- BRUE, a citizen of the United States, residin at Kenosha, in the county of Kenosha and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Christmas- Tree Holders, of which the following is a specification.
One of the objects of this invention is the production of a strong, stable, and ineX ensive stand or support which may be use for holding Christmas-trees and other objects.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means for read-ily securing the tree or other object to the holder.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of a Christmas-tree holder embodying the features of my invention.
The preferred embodiment of my invention comprises a base consisting of two side bars 1 connected together by means of two cross bars 2, said cross bars being spaced a suitable distance apart and secured to the side bars 1 by means of nails 3 or other suitable fastening devices. To add to the rigidity of the structure, I may place filler blocks 4 between the ends of the cross bars 2, said filler blocks being nailed or otherwise secured to the side bars 1. The side bars 1 and cross bars 2 are of sufficient length to aord a stable support for the object to be held.
In ractice the holder is made in several sizes 'or 'use with various sizes of Chritsmastrees. I prefer that the lower edges of the cross bars 2 shall n ot be flush with the lower edges of the side bars 1 in order that the holder may be the more easily placed firmly upon an uneven floor or other support. of the cross bars 2 carries the means for attaching the tree aJ to the holder. Said attaching means in this embodiment comprises a U-shape bolt 5, the legs of which extend through openings 6 in said cross bar, win nuts 7 being turned upon the screw-threade outer ends of said legs. The tree is clamped by said bolt against a seat block 8 suitably secured to the cross bar 2, said seat block being yrecessed as by forming a V-groove 9 therein to receive the stem of the tree. The seat block 8 may be made of'suitable length to afford a good bearing upon the object to be held. In use, the U-bolt 5 is slackened sufficiently to receive the butt ofthe tree between its legs and said bolt drawn up to clamp the tree against the seat block 8.
The foregoing detailed description is given for clearness of understanding only, andis not to be regarded as in the natureof an undue limitation.
I claim as my invention:
A suptporting device, comprising vertically arrange side members, vertically arranged tie members connecting said side members and having their lower edges above the plane of the lower edges of said side members, and a tree attaching means on the side of one of said tie members.
ENGLY @ILES KILLERBRUE.
