Be it known that I, MARK M. common, a citizen of the United States,, residing at Marshfield, in the county o'f'Coos and State of Oregon, have invented a new and-useful Wrench, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to-wrenches and its ob ect 1s to provide a wrench which can be quickly ad ustedto nuts of different sizes and tightly grip them.
Another object isto provide a wrench the ad ustable aw of which is designed to posi tively engage the shank when'in locked position, the mechanism for, locking the jaw being of simple, durableand efficient construction.,
With these and other objects in viewthe invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations" of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings is shown the preferred form of the invention.

Referring to the figures by characters of,
reference, 1 designates a shank having a handle 2 secured to one end thereof in any preferred manner, while the other end of the shank has a fixed jaw 23 secured thereto or formed therewith. One-face of the shank is )rovided with rack teeth 4 for the purpose loroinaftcr set forth. This block is rovided upon one face with teeth 11 designed to engage the teeth upon the shank and a circular opening 12 extends through the central ortion of the block. The outer face of the lock is inclined inwardly from the center thereof so as to form an an le 13 against which bearsa spring 14 suitab y secured Within a groove 15 formed in jaw 5adjacent the recess 7. Revolubly mounted Within the opening 12 is an eccentric 16-at w head 17' designed to rotate within the opening 9 while at its other end is'a small circular 1 head 18 designed to rotate Within the opening 8. These two heads are concentric and projecting' from the small head 18 is an an ular projection 19 designed to project into a ever 20 and to be held in engagement therewith by means ofa retaining screw 21. A cam 22 extends from the periphery of the head 17 and a correspondingcam 23 is located on one face of the lever 20. These cams are designed to travel upon the side faces of the jaw 5 and are movable upon a pair of fixed stop lugs or projections 24 formed upon the sides of the jaw 1 The spring 14 serves to hold the block 10 normally in engagement with the shank.
vWhen, however, it is desired to disengage the block from the shank so as to permit the movable jaw to slide along the shank, lever 20 is swung in one direction so that the cams 22 and 23 will ride u on lugs 24. The cams will therefore shift t e eccentrics longitudinally within the openings 8 and 9 and cause the block 10 to move out of engagement with the teeth. By swinging the lever in the other direction the cams will not ride u on the lugs and therefore the block 10 wil be maintained in engagement with shank 1, the

It will be seen that. the parts can be readily assembled, the eccentric being insertible into position through the large opening 9 and the screw 21 constituting means for holding the lever as well as the eccentric in proper position.
Importance is attached to the wrench herein described because of its simplicity and strength, its inexpensive construction, and the ease with which it maybe operated.
What is claimed is:
1. In a wrench the combination with a shank; of a jaw slidably mounted upon the shank, a shank engaging member movable within the slidable jaw, yieldable means for holding said member and the shank normally in enga ement, and an eccentric revolubly mounte l within the movable jaw and the member therein and disposed when rotated to positively shift the slidable jaw in either direction in relation to the member therein.
2. In a wrench the combination with a shank; of a 'j aw slidably mounted upon the shank, a shank enga 'ng member movably mounted within the s idable jaw, a revoluble element within said member and shiftable within the slidable jaw, and means operated 3. In a wrench the combination with a toothed shank; of a jaw slidably mounted thereon, a spring 1Eressed member movably mounted within t e jaw and normally engaging the' shank, a-lifting cam revolubly mounted upon said member, a stop device upon the jaw and in the path of said cam, and means for moving the cam against the stop device to shift said member from engaggment with the shank.
