LOUIS J. LUCKE, OF HAVRE, MONTANA.
SHOE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 29, 1907.
Patented July '7, 1908.
Serial No. 390,668.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS J. Looks, a citizen of the United States, residing at Havre, in the county of Chouteau and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Shoe, of which the following isa specification.
This invention relates generally to shoes,
. and more particularly to a novel form of heel counter therefor.
The object of the invention is in a ready and practical manner to obviate the wearing away of the heels of stockings due to the fraying out of the canvas that is generally employed in covering the leather counter in common use, whereby greater comfort will ensue and a material saving in the wear and tear of stockings will be effected. Moreover, to provide a counter that shall be thoroughly sanitary and will prevent the retention of odors that are objectionable in the ordinary leather counter; that will not turn or run over, and that will not rust from perspiration.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and arrangement of arts of a shoe counter, as will be hereinafter ully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts,Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a heel counter constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a bot tom plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a front elevation.
The counter shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, is constructed from a single piece of non-oxidizable metal, preferably of aluminum, and maybe either cast or stamped to an ap ropriate shape. By preference, the stoc: of which the counter is constructed will be sufficiently thin to permit a certain degree of yielding in use, whereby discomfort will be obviated.
The article comprises a heel piece or flange 1, the lower edge of which is inturned to present an attaching rim 2, and. disposed intermediate of the length of the counter and extending longitudinally and at right angles thereto are two attaching bars or members 3 and 4, these, as well as the rim, being provided with any number of spaced orifices 5 by which the counter can be secured to the heel portion of the shoe. As shown in Fig. 3, the front walls of the heel piece are downwardly-curved at 6, and inwardly curved, as at 7, the latter curvature being provided to form a support for the instep adjacent to the heel, and will be found of value where a person is flat footed. The degree of curvature of the parts 7 may be varied at will and, owing to the flexibility of the material of which the counter is made, the person applying the counter to position may increase or diminish the curve 7 according to the requirement of the case by the employment of a pair of round nose pliers.
The improvements herein defined while simple in construction will be found thoroughly efficient for the purposes designed and will in a practical manner obviate the objectionable defects heretofore present in ordinary counters.
I claim A heel counter constructed from aluminum comprising a heel piece, the forward walls of which are incurved to provide instep supports, and the lower edges of which are inturned to form an attaching rim, a longitudinal and a transverse attaching bar integral with the rim, the latter bar being disposed approximately midway of the length of the counter, the bars and rim being provided with orifices to receive attaching devices.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS J. LUOKE.
