Be 1t known that we, Enma Moonen, engineer, a citizen of the French Republic, rc
.siding 33 Rue Dautancourt, Paris, in the Republic of France, and ALBERT HUMAINE, engineer, a citiaen of the French Republic, residing 64 Rue Laniark, Paris, `France, have invented certain new and useful improvements in and Relating to Sparking Plugs, of which the following is a speci'lication.
This invention relates to improif'einents in sparking plugs for explosion motors, by means of which it is possible to adjust the distance between ,the spark producing surfaces 'without it being necessary, as in most known systems, to displace longitudinally the central rod, thus partly disinounting the plug.
One object of the invention. is to produce a plug having large surfaces between the sparking parts, thus diminishing the wear of said surfaces and .lengthening t e life of the plut?, A Another object of the invention is to arrange the parts forming the electrodes completely outside of thebody of the plug, in order to render them accessible for cleaning purposes, the cleaning being effected by rubing the parts with a piece of folded emery 'pa er or cloth.
The invention is characterized by the fact that the head terminating'the central rod, is
provided with lane surfaces, so that the dis-ly tance relative to the correspondinfrt surfaces oi the other pole of the plug can be adjusted by a simple movement of rotation on the central rod. This arrangement is also intended to facilitate the cleaning.
In the accompanying' drawing: 4Figure 1 represents a vertical section through the axis of the sparking plug. Fig. 2 is an cxternal elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view, and Fig. lillustrates a structure of the operative extremity of the plug in which the sparking surfaces are cross-sha ed.
The insulating body a formed of porce ain, steatite, or other ap ropriate substance is lodged in the meta body l), the screw threaded end c of which is screwed on to the motor and is prolonged by a slotted or recessed tubular portion in such a manner as to present four surfaces d cfg.v The 'tightenin nut'h and a packing i serve to fix the insu ating body a within the metal body b with a tight jbint. The central rod j of the plug terminates at its lower part in a rectangular head 7e, which enters the slot or recess in the lower tubular part of the body with a certain amount of play. The upper part Z of .the rod j is screw threaded; it receives the tightening nut m which serves to fix it in theinsulating body a. The washer n formed of elastic material, compensates for the expansionof the rod and tends to cause it to bear continuously upon the packing o which bears against the shoulder g on the rod y', in such a manner as to forni a suiiciontly tight joint. The vscrew threaded extremity Z likewise receives the milled knob p serving as a terminal for the electric conductor. An inner chamber is 'provided in order to obviate fouling.
The operation is as follows: The' body of the plug'is attached to the motor in the usual manner, and the central rod is connected to .the current conductor.

liavinc now-particularly described and ascertainedD the nature of our said invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, we declare that what we claim is:
1. An electric sparking plug for explosion motors, having av body provided wi th a slotted tubular extension forming one of the poles and a central rod having a head and forming the other pole, the head being provided with a plane surface received by the said tubular extension and rotatable on the central rod for adjusting the distance of the spark producing surfaces.
A2. An electric sparking lug for explosion motors, comprising a meta body adapted to be secured to the motor and having a slotted innerend, an insulating body having a longitudinal bore Vandsecured in the metal body, and a rod secured in the insulating b'ody and having a head at its inner end in the slot of the metal body, the outer end of the rod extending beyond the outer end ol' the said insulating body. l 3. An electric sparking plug for explosion motors7 comprising a metal body provided with a reduced and screw threaded end forming a slotted extension, an insulating bod having a longitudinal bore and. secured in t ic metal body with its outer end projecting beyond the end of the same, a rod in the bore of the insulating body, means for securing the rod in said body, and a movable head on the inner end of the rodin the slotof the metal body.
