Description

EDWARD REYNOLDS, 'OF ,WINNECONNEL WISCONSIN. Lene/rs Parent No. sssadamz April 13, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN annua-1511: scRnE'N.
To all whom lit may concer/nl Be it known that I, EDWARD REYNOLDS, of Winneconne,in the county of Winnebago, and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churns; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exactdescription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, and to the letters 0f reference markedA thereon, like letters .indicatingv like parts wherever they occur.
Toenable others skilled in the art to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
My invention relates to chums, and consists in an attachment for the ordinary dasher-churn, to prevent the accumulation of butter or cream on top of the lid.
The drawings show a lperspective view of a churnlid and the dasher handle, with my device applied.
The dev-ice consists of a'ring, G, of such size as `to permit the dasher-handle B to pass readily through it, and which is secured below the lid inside of the churn, as clearlyshown in the drawing.
The ring is secured inV place by means of arms, a, formed on its outer side, and which are turned up at right angles, and driven into the under side of the lid A. When thus applied, the ring O serves the twofold purpose of guiding the dasher-handle, and of scraping off from it all adhering cream, butter, 8vo., which falls back instead of being carried up and deposited outside.
The hole, or opening -D- in the lid, through which' the handle passes, Ialsomake of larger size than usual, and also ot' increasing size from the inner side toward the outer, so that if any cream should escape to the top it Will yflow back through this opening.
It is obvious that the ring may be located at any suitable distance below the lid A,'from one-half to three-quarters of Aan inch therefrom 'being found in practice the most effective'. y
The ring may be constructed of any suitable material, and may be either round,"sq uare, or other form, in cross-section.
Having thus described my invention,
What Ivclair'n, is-
The ring C, constructed and arranged in relation to the .lid and dasher of a churn, substantially as herein described.
EDWARD REYNOLDS.
