Specification of Letters `Patent.
Patented June 2, 190e.
Application filed June 22, 1907. Serial No. 880,363.
T o all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEonoRE KnAnAs, a-
citizenA of the United States, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented vcertain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
:,This invention relates to advertising devices and more particularly though not necessarily to a street car advertising'device and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient device of the above character wherein the display cardswill 'constantly travel from one end of the car to the other, the cards being attached to endless belts, thus providing a device which v will naturally attract the attention of assengers in that'v the dis lay cards are slow y moving lengthwise of t 1e car. The invention consists of a novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be 'hereinafter fully set forth, and finally pointed out in the claims. Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speciication,'wherein like characters of reference denote similar arts throughout the several views: Figure 1, 1s a plan view of an advertising device con-I structed in accordance with my: invention; Filr 2 is a front elevation thereof; Fig. 3 ,is a
lnuview in detail showing a display card ield in osition by means of slotted card holders; `ig. 4, is an enlargedsideelevation of one of the card holders as secured to the 4, and the suitable glass front 5.
i veyers are made from steel tape .or *otherendless conveyers; Fig. 5,- is a plan view thereof; Fig. 6, is a perspective view with a portion broken away of one of the fabric display cards; and Fig.7, is a perspective view of one of the card holders;
Referring to the accom anying drawings A, designates a suitable ousing or casing comprising a' top 1, bottom 2, side 3, the ends Suitably mounted Within the housing and at each end thereof are rollers or drums 6,
which are suitably mounted upon the shafts 7 and 8. As shown in the drawin s, shaft 7 is adapted to be the power shaft, but have not shown the mechanlsm for giving movement thereto, as this may be` modified at will, alithongh electric power is preferable when used in street cars and the like. Each ofthe roll- 'ers or drums 6, is provided with a'plurality of projections 9, adapted to -enter the openings 10, ofthe endless conveyers 11 which con- -thereof may be uti slot.
suitable material. This` conveyer 11, passes over the rollers 6, and the meeting ends thereof `are suitably connected to form endless conveyers, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, of
the drawings. Suitably secured to these conveyers 11 are a plurality of display card holders 12. These card holders 12, are secured to the endless conveyers 11, in suitably spaced relation with one another, the distance between each being the length ofthe display cards which ma vary in length if so desired. These card holders 12, are composed of a pair of plates 13, having their upright edges curved as at 14. Interposed between these two plates and to which they are connected is the central rib or partition 15,
which forms a suitable pocket 16, upon op oslte sides thereof which pockets are rovi ed with the oppositely disposed vertica slots 17 formed between the curved" edges of thel plates 13, as clearly shown in Figs. 3, 5 and 7.
The advertising cards vor display sections v ends of the card or dis lay sections 18, are' adapted to be held in t e pockets 16, of.l the hol ers 12, thereb stretching the fabric dis,-
play sections and eeping the same perfectly v smooth. The advertisingV card or display section is changeable and the one card or display section may contain two advertisements or other dis lay matter, as b'oth sides iized for this purpose. When the advertising' device is used in a street car or the like the housing or casing A, containing the same is suitably secured to the walls of the car directly above the window.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim 1s:-
1. In an advertising device, the combina--` tion with supporting rollers, and belts disposed therearound, of transverse members connecting said belts, said members eachhavin a longitudinal slot, and a dis lay element aving an enlarged` edgehel in said 2. In an advertising device, the combination with supporting-rollers, and belts disposed tnerearound, of.t ransverse members v1ro connecting said belts, each of said members comprising ribs having plates attached to 0posite sides thereof, and each plate having Itsside edges curved toward the complemen- 5 tary edges Aof the other, said edges being disposed m separated relation, whereby a pocket is formed adapted to retain the edge of adisplay element.
3. In an advertising device, a dis lay-eley 10 ment holder comprising a rib and p ates attached to the op(eposite sides thereof, each plate having its si e edges curved toward the complementary edges of the other and said edges, being disposed' in separated relation,
whereby a pocket is formed adapted to re- 15 tain theV enlarged edge of a display-element.
'In testimony whereof I 'have signed my name to` the speciflcationin the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
` THEODORE KHARAS.
