have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Cars, of whichthe following is car, and more espelie anchorage for the safety chains, the
mounting and supports for corner stakes 0r posts and'in the arrangement, construction,
and connection of the center and draft sills.

A gusset plate 24 with an upturned flan e 25 is fastened by means of said flange to the vertical webs of the end and side sills, and riveted to each gusset plate, the rivets also passing, through the diagonal braces, is an angle late 26 whose upstanding flange 27 is rivetec to one leg of an upright angle bar 28 constituting acorner post. By means of a construction of this character I secure an especially firm, and rigid connection for the corner posts Withthe underframe of the car, thesame being located within theside andend Walls of the car body. This car has on each side a lurality of side stakes 29 which lie against t e outer faces of the side sills 16, being riveted thereto at 30. Referrin to Fig. 9, it willbe noticed that the he eye or anchor 37 rests against the outer face of the web of the channel end sill 17, a bolt or stem 38 equipped with a nut 39 passing through the end Slll and through'a down-turned earor end 40 of a strap or bar 41, the other end of which lies u on and is riveted to the top of the body bolster 18. To each of these anchors is secured the usual safety chain 42.
