To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN CARRINGTON BROOKE, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the v county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Assembly-Chairs'l of which t e following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements on those'assembly chairs in which the seat is adapted to fold and the back is adapted to be tilted forward to facilitate the seating of an audience by providing additional room between the chairs for persons to pass in and out and at the same time enabling the chairs to be placed nearer together and thus increase the capacity for seating in a room in which they are set up.
One object of my invention is to provide an assembly chair with standards of sheet steel construction and which may be simple or elaborate according to the idea of the user While comprising but few parts.
Another obj ect of my invention is to provide a light inexpensive plain and durable two part sheet steel standard including the supporting base.
Another object of my invention is toprovide a vertically adjustable seat arm support.
Another object of my invention is to proj vide an improved arm rest bracket.
Another object of my invention is to provide an adjustable pivot support for the back.
Another object of my invention is to provide an improved and durable link connection between the seat and the back.
Another object of my invention is to provide an improved construction of side frame for a tilting back.
Another object of my invention is to provide a vertically adjustable hat guard suport.

ith these and other objects in view to perfect such chair my invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.

In carrying out my invention I provide a pair of plain skeleton thin metal standards 11 which are preferably made of. sheet steel, Wrought or malleable iron or cast steel, each having a substantial supporting base 12 pro# vided with broad feet 13 secured by fastenings 14. These standards 11 are reinforced by marginal flanges 15, and are further provided with foot rest rail sockets 16 and hat guard supports 17;

An assembly chair comprisingV ay standard: having a pair` of horizontal: flanges at its upper end. providing aslide recess and a bolt hole between the flanges, a back having a forwardly projecting' lug provided with, a pivot hole, an adjustable plate having a horizontal bolt slot, and a pivot hole at its rear end andttingbetween and overlapping the ianges, a bolt extending through. the bolt hole and bolt slot having a binding nut, and: af pivot pin connecting the adjustable plate with the forwardly projecting lug.

Air assembly chair comprising a standard having a pair of horizontal.curvedfianges at its upper end providing a slide recess and af. bolt hole between the'fianges, a back. having a forwardly projecting lug provided with a pivot hole, an adjustable curved plate having a horizontal. bolt slot, and a pivot hole at its-rearend and. fitting betweenthe fianges', af bolt extendingv through. the bolt hole and bolt slot having a binding nut, and a pivot pin connecting the adjustable plate with the forwardly projecting lug.
5. An assembly chair comprising standards having seat-arm supports, seat-arms having outwardly projecting tubular studs, a back, side frames secured to the baokand having lugs pivoted to the standards, and oifset hinge-arms, connecting links pivoted to the outer side of the hinge arms at their rear ends, and bolts pivoting the forward ends of' the connecting links to the tubular studs.
6. An assembly vchair comprising standards having seat-arm supports, seat-arms a back, side Jframes 4secured to the back and having lugs pivoted adjustably to the standards, and offset hinge arms, connecting links pivoted to the outer side of the hingearms at their rear ends, and bolts pivoting the forward ends of the connecting links to the tubular studs.
