snow-WINDOW FASTENER.
T cell whom it ma'y concern:
-Be it known that I, GE'OR'GE C. MARR, a
citizen ofthe United States, residing at.
Washington, the District of Columbia,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Show-VVmdow Fasteners; and
I do declare the following to .be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as Wlll enable others skilled in the art to this specification.
My ijventlon' relates to a class of show cases, but more particularly to a show win dow fastener, and has for its object to provide a '-fastening means for the contiguous edgesof platesof glass, which fastening does not-require the inside edges of the glass-to be polished or beveled.
Afurther object of my invention is to pro- .vide a fastener which will to a great extent protect the glass from breakage, and which will hold the selvage and prevent same from falling should the glass be accidentally broken.
A further object of my invention is to provide a postfandfastener which will provide for wiring electric lights in the front corners of the window. I
A further object of my invention 1s to provide a post and fastener so arranged and constructed' that the distance between the fasteners, clamps or anchors can be regulated to suit the character of the work, the fasteners or clamps. being longitudinally movable or adjustable within the post arid not permanently connected thereto.
A further obj eot of my invention is to provide certain improve cuts in the construction and arrangement of parts over the S. patent granted to meon May 28, 1907,- No. 855 195.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the novel =1; rangement and construction of the post and clamping means.
My invention further cons sts in the novel arrangement providing for a metal tube or .pipe acting as a conduit for electric wiring.
My invention further consists in the combination of the movable or adjustable clamp 01' anchor and the associated clamping parts. This post and. fastener is constructed with a View to being employedwhere an excep Specification of Letters Patent.
Application'filed October a, 1907. Star No. 395,768.
Patented may 2c, 1908.
t'ionally heavy, stout and rigid fastener is re-' quired, and is also designed to be employed inall instances-where the inside corners of the glass is to present a particular neat and finished appearance, such-as is of'co'ursede sirable .whenever windows are equipped with corner lights. i
Referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspectiveview showing two plates of glass and illustrating the post and fastener in operative position. Fig. 2 .is a
perspective view taken through the outside corner of the post and fastener, and, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional View through the same.
.Like numerals of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several figures'in which: I lindicates the plates of glass. I 4 2 indicates the outer post, said post 2 comprising a'curvecl portion 3', which as shown in Fig. 3 "is substantially semicircular in cross section having the edges 4 and 5' thereof turned inwardly at an angle to each other of substantially 90 degrees .(this assuming that the two pieces of glass. to be fastened" are at right angles to each other).
6 indicates the post clamp or anchor which, as shown in Fig. 3, has its two ends 7 bent or curved'in the direction of the curve or are of the curved post 3, while the said post clam or anchor 6 is provided centrallywith a bo t 8, said bolt being either formed integral with the clamp or anchor 6, orsecured thereto in any convenient manner. The bolt 8 has its inner end threaded at9 to, accommodate a nut or tap 10 as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
11 and 12 indicate the two side plates whichare secured to the curved post 3 and which together therewith form the outer 'p ost 2, said plates 11 and 12 extend a considerable distance beyond the ends of the curved post 3 as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and being designed to be constructed of polished metal. This arrangement presents aparticular' striking appearance and at the same tim'e provides a corner post of exceptional strength and rigidity. As shown in the drawings the side plates 11 and 12 overlap the edges of the glass plates 1.
In order to insure a perfectly tight and strong construction and in order to space the glass plates 1 uniformly their height I provide an. angular post 13 against which the extreme edges of the glass plates 1 abut as clearly shown in the drawings, the bolt 8 of the clamp or anchor 6 passing through said post 13 centering the same and preventing any movement thereof.
14 indicates the inner post which may be constructed of Wood or other suitable material, said post being provided with a depression 1.5 and perforated to receive the bolt 8 and the nut or tap 10. The sides of the inner post 14 are formed at substantially an angle of 90 degrees to accommodate an angle bar 16' on each side, the outer portion of each angle bar 16'being in engagement with the inner surface of the glass plates 1, while the inner portion of each angle bar 16 extends inwardly over the post 14 completely covering the same. As shown in Fig. 3 the post 14 is provided with a longitudinal annular groove or recess 17 to accommodate a metal pipe or tube 18 which serves as a conduit for an electric wiring 19; and it is my intention to arrange the angle bars 16 and the tube or pipe 18 in such manner that the inner edges of the angle bars 16 engage the pipe or tube 18 to hold the said pipe-or tube in posi-- tion within the annular groove or recess 1? at the same time allowing said plpe or tube 18 to be rotated for the purpose of swinging the lamp or lamps secured thereto toward one glass or the other. This arrangement is desirable in show windows where it is desired to brilliantly display any particular article or articles.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 an electric bulb 20 arranged on a bracket 21 of suitable design is carried on the rotatable tube or pipe 18, the electric wiring 19 entering said bracket and thus leading to the bulb; all wiring'being invisible.
Having thus fully described my invention its operation is obvious.
In order to secure or fasten the contiguous edges of two plates of glass the post 13 is bored or perforated at desired intervals in order to accommodate any number of clamps or anchors 6, the inner post 14 being also bored or perforated to register with the perforations in the post 13. Where any particular strength or rigidity is required any number of clamps oranchors 6 can be employed as said clamps or anchors are longitudinally movable -0r adjustable ,within the curved post 3.] The inner post 14:,angle bars 16 and conduit pipe or tube 18 are then assembled as shown in Fig. 3.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire, to secure by Letters Patent of the United. States, is:
A device-for securing and clamping together the contiguous edges of plates of glass, comprising a curved post, a side late under each edge of said curved post, a'c amp or anchor within said curved post, a bolt carried on said clamp or anchor, a post unders'aid side plates for spacing apart the plates of
