COOLING DEVICE FOR LARD-COIVEPOUNDING MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed December 29, 1906. Serial No. 350,027.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT L. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of San Antonio, in the county of BeXar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooling Devices for Lard-Compounding Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lard compounding machines in which the melted lard compound is spread on a rotating drum and scraped OH in thin layers. In the rotating drum is located a smaller stationary drum which consists of two galvanized sheet iron end disks with an opening in periphery by. iron rods, and the drum so formed is covered by galvanized iron netting. On the inside of the rotating drum are several longitudinal buckets'for carrying up the brine which is poured on the inner surface of the rotating drum.
The object of my invention is to spread the melted lard compound on a large surface, in thin sheets, and by freezing uickly the ly unified. I attain this object by the machine illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the entire machine, and Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, without the lard compound receptacle, showing the rotating drum in section. Fig. 3 is a separate view of a longitudinal bucket S, showing the side and end.

A, is a receptacle of galvanized iron or other suitable material, with an outlet valve B, for the reception of melted lard compound. This receptacle A, has a jacket A with a pipe inlet A and a pipe outlet A The valve B, is connected with a pipe D, which runs in its entire length through a tube O. This tube is closed at both ends also a pipe inlet O and a pipe outlet C and the pipe outlet A of the jacket A is connected by pipe G with the pipe inlet C of the tube 0. The pipe inlet A and the pipe outlet C are connected with a suitable Water heaternot shown in the drawingso that the hot water circulates from the water heater into the jacket A of the receptacle,
from there into the jacket O, of the pipe, and 1 from there back into the water heater.
y this means the lard compound is kept in a. melted state in the receptacle A, and while passing through the pipe D, to the outlet D From time to time the lard compound in the receptacle is thoroughly stirred to keep the lard compound well mixed. The outlet D is placed over the middle of a strainer trough E, which is located on top of the freezing machine. This machine consists of a wooden frame F, on which is fastened two brackets G, which hold a shaft H. On this shaft H, is suitably fastened two galvanized sheet iron disks I, which are at their periphery connected with a number of galvanized iron rods K, the whole forming a drum. This drum is for the reception of ice and has in one disk I, an opening J, and the outer surface is covered with galvanized iron netting L, to keep the small pieces of ice inside the drum.
A larger drum M, of galvanized iron, or other suitable materials inclosing the ice drum has journals N, at the ends whereby the drum revolves on the shaft H. The one end disk has a door O, corresponding in size and location with the opening J, of the ice drum. To the one journal N, is fastened a sprocket wheel P. On the frame F, is located a driving sprocket wheel Q, which carries on its shaft a crank R, and the s rocket wheels are connected by an endless cliain. Inside of the drum M, are fastened three or more longitudinal buckets S, which are perforated at their bottoms. When the ice drum is filled with ice the drum M, is partly filled with brine. The buckets S, will spread the brine against the inner surface of the drum when the crank is turned. A scraper T, is pressed by means of springs U, against the outside of the drum, and a large receptacle V, is placed underneath. To operate the machine the melted lard compound is let into the perforated trough E, by the pipe outlet D and is spread in thin layers on the surface of the drum, and freezes immediately, and is then scraped off by the scraper T, and dropped in the receptacle V.
Having now fully described my invention What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a machine of the type set forth, an outer drum, a plurality of inwardly extending buckets right angular in cross section carried by said drum, an inner drum in said outer drum composed of end disks, a series of rods connecting said disks at their periphery and netting overlying said rods and the disk peripheries.
2. In a machine of the type set forth, an outer drum, a series of inwardly extending buckets L-sha e in cross section carried by said drum so t at the base of the L will he innermost and the vertical leg thereof disposed radially of said drum, an inner drum com osed of end disks, connecting means 10 for t e disks, and mesh material surrounding said disks.
