.of Indiana, have invented certain. new and usefulimprovements in 'lensioi'i-licels lor Cables; and L do hereby declare that the following is a lull, clear, and exact descrip tion ol" the invention which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which. form part o'l this specilirmtion.
My invention relates to improvements in tension reels for cables, designed to be employed upon pneumatic straw stackers, and particularly of that class illustrated by my patent of la' "h 10, 1902 ,1iumbcrcd 722,451.
The ob ect of my present invention is to provide an improved and simplified means for laterally shilting the hood of a pneumatic straw stiu ker by imparting to the same. at pleasure a rotary nniwement in either direction, so constructed as to keep the cables taut at all times in use.
My invention consists of a pair of winding drums each containing a helical spring by means ol which each drum is perativcly connected with its respective shaft; means for operating the said drums iinilepeiulcntly of each other and of their respective shafts and means for prcven ting the rotation of the drums in more than one direction in use.
The novel feature of iny invention resides in the construction and cooperation of the rope-finding drums and their operative means.

These hollow drums are divided into two compartments by means of the sheet metal partition 13 in parallel arrangement with the drum heads, and having a central opening for the shaft. in one of these compartments arranged the helical spring 14 coiled about the respective sha'ft, one end of the spring being secured to the said shaft and the other end to the adjacent drumhead in any suitable manner, as by means ol a pin 15 whose other end is fixed in the partition The other compartment con- 10. tains the ratchet mechanism described as follows: A sleeve 16 loosely mounted on the inner end of the shaft 6, Fig. 3, and is provided with a lixed or inte 'ral head or cylindrical enlargement 17 having a peripheral flange 18 and a ratchet wheel 19 upon the inner end thereof adapted to be arranged within the ratchet mechanism chamber.
A pawl 20 is pivotslly mounted upon the inner face of the drum-head 4 and is adapted for a holding engagement with the wheel 19, as shown in F l, and is firmly held to its engagement by the sprin 21, or other proper means.
