J. o.l HEINZE, n.
SPARK COIL.' APPLIOATION FILED MAB. e. 190s.
UNITED s'rArEs PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN OTTO IIEINZE, JR., OF LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS.
SPARK-G0114.
No. sse-,611.
To all 'whom it may' concern? Be it known that I, JOHN O'r'ro HEINZE 4Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and State 'of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in S ark-Coils, of which the following is a speciiixation, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
-spark-coil units, mounted in a box,
My invention relates to s arkecoils.
It has been. found .that where two ormore and independently removable therefrom, are used in association with, say,
likely to result, because of possible jolts of theautomobile.
Now, it is the ob'ectof my invention to reduce-the chances ov these faulty connections,
i 1 assembledl simultaneously;
i ofv my :tive .vie'w' .of two .units, and shows means employed for removand I attain it byso desi ning and combining said s ark-coil'units, i mounted 1n their box, they are not inde endent, but are bound together intoa solis-and rigid grou p,and can not be-independently erefrom, or replaced therein; that to withdraw onejunit from the box, lall the units 'must be withdravi'fn; and to rasall -niust be removed t 1sl to say,
semble all the units in the box,
Figure 1 v ,shows my invention in front elevation, two sparkcoil units being partially within their'. box; while Fig'. 2- is a perspecdisconnected spark-coil ably connecting'them.
l n the drawings 'illustrating the principle invention and the best mode now known to me of embodying'that principle, a
'that a" horizontal ofthe coils, wil
oup oftwospark-co units-.1, 2, is shown'. he sides 3, 4, of the 'coilunits 1, .2, whiclfare to be adjacent, are made of such thickness slot A5,' may one, 'as 3, `and acorresponding rib 6, on the other, .as .4; this rib and slot being so arranged in relation to each other that Awhen they are infen'ga ment, the' terminals, as 8, 9
" when the units are move down to the bottom of the box 10, simultane- 1 -ously engage' corresponding contacts 11, 12. v 2-,the slot 5 and-rib 6 arebrought'into engage- To. assemble vthe spark-,coil units 1, 2, Fig.
. ment, and Vthen the units are inserted into Specification of Letters Patent. Application led March 6, 1908. Serial No.` 419,506.
one or both of the coils, and l' a gasol'ene-engine-in an' automobile, faulty electrical connections are at while they are.
'the' case were the units be formed in Patented Mayas, 190s.
the box y10, Fig. 1, the inside surfaces of which serve as guides units becoming and remaining inse arably bound together while they remain in t e box. To remove-these coils, the o erator grasps ts them out of the box. While it is truelthat the spark-coil units can not be withdrawn without destroying all of their electrical'connections, the refor the group; the.
moval is hardly evernecessary, bec-anse spark-coil construction has now reachedfsuch a state ofperfection,that defects, in 'individual units hardlyzeverlarise.;
Itis evident that the moment the gro'up' is inserted inthe box,l the' units become rigidly bound together into what is substantially be a groupoi` i ndependentunits, agroup of de.

It will be plain to all of those skilled in the art t'o which my invention alpertains, thatit may be employed in many .without departing Herent forms vention, and I desire' to protect the same in the broadest manner legally possible.
1. In combination, a box; a plurality of spark coil runits removably mounted therein;
and means connecting said units, whereby the removal l'et one of said units' from the box I necessitates the removal of its adjacent unit.
2. A box; a plurality of spark-coil units removably mounted therein; and interlocks ingmeans to connect said units; all being so designed as to reduce the tendency to sever any electrical connections betweenI the;
box and the units.
3. A box 'having 4electrical connections therein; a plurality of spark coil units refrom the spirit of myin# one solid body,'which, consequently, is heavier haneach-ofthe component units, and when seated. in the suflicientl jolted out'of normalposition, lto
