To all whom it may concern:
j ,Be it known that I, GEORGE XV. STAN- CLIFF, a citizen of the United States, residin at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Tubular and Drive Well Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tubular well attachments.
The object of the invention is to increase the efficiency, and to sim lify the construction and thus materia ly reduce the cost of production of such articles.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention consists, generally stated, in \a tubular well strainer or drive well point comprising a cylindrical tube rovided with appropriately disposed. orices for the admission of the liquid, the exterior of the tube being plain, that is to say, devoid of ribs or projections of any kind, and furnished with a helical V- shaped groove, and a metallic woolding, triangular in cross section, having one of its edges seated in the groove.
The invention consists further in a tubu-- lar well strainer or drive well point constitutin a strainer, comprising a plain cylindrica tube provided with appropriately disposed orifices for the admission of the liquid, and with an external helical V shaped groove, the successive turns of which are spaced. by flat lands, and a metallic woolding, triangular in cross section, having one of its edges seated in the groove, the external surface formed by the woolding being fiat, and the spaces between the opposed. edges of the successive turns of the woolding being of a size to perrnit ready ingress of liquid to the tube with the exclusion of any extraneous matter, such as sand, small pebbles, or the like.
The invention consists further in the various novel details of construction of the tubular well attachments, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, a
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, partly in section, of a portion of a well strainer constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a drive well point.
As is well known, the strainer and the drive well point of tubular wells both subserve a similar function, namely that of separating from the liquid, before it enters either of the structures, any extraneous matter, such as sand, gravel, or the like, which would tend, if drawn into the pump, to in jure it or render it inoperative, and, therefore, the term tubular well attachment eniployed in the claims is to be understood as including generically both the strainer and driven well point. I
The strainer, shown in Fig. 1, comprises a plain cylindrical tube 1, which may be of any length and which is provided with any desired number of appropriately spaced orifices 2. The exterior surface of the tube is provided with a helical groove 3, the successive turns of which are spaced by flat lands 4. The groove is engaged by a metallic woolding 5, which, as shown in Fig. 1, is triangular in cross section, and has one of its edges seated in the groove, and is held thereby firmly against movement upon the tube. The external surface formed by the woolding is fiat and forms practically a cylindrical surface, and the spaces between the opposed edges of the successive turns of the woolding are of a size to permit ready ingress of liquid to the orifices 2, but will operate positively to exclude the entrance of extraneous matter. The same arrangement is observed with relation to the drive well point shown in Fig. 2 and operates in precisely the same manner.
