SAFETY ATTACHMENT FOR POCKETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 5, 1908.
Application filed October 12, 1907. Serial No. 397,191.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HJALMOR ERIOKSON, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Cambridge, in the county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new ments for Poc the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable .others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in safety attachments for apparel pockets and it has more particular reference to an attachment in the nature of a guard for watches or other articles of value, and in its broad conception comprises a socket member and a member having a ball portion detachably engaged in said member said last named member including a detachable part for engagement with the ring of a watch or other article.
In connection with a safety attachment having the above general characteristics, the
L invention aims as a primary object to provide a detachable part of novel construction that engages with the watch ring.
The invention aims as a further object to provide, in the attachment as an entirety, a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts.
The details of construction will appear in the course of the following description in which reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, like characters of reference designating similar parts throughout the several views, wherein Figure 1 is a sectional view of the attachment comprehended in the present invention and showing its application to apparel pockets containing a watch. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the attachment in the same application, the front wall of the pocket being broken away. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the member of the fastening device which carries the ball-shaped part and the detachable art for engagement with the watch ring.
ig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the Watch ring engaging part. Fig. 5 is an elevation of the inner section of a socket member and a split ring mounted therein.
In the accompanying drawings, the numeral 5 designates the rear wall of the ocket and the numeral 6 designates the The attachment forming the subject matter of the present invention is designated, generally, by the numeral 7 and comprises a socket part 8 and a wall 1 part 9 and what shall hereinafter be termed a fastening part 10. and useful Improvements in Safety Attachl The socket 1 part 8 in cludes a back member 11 formed 0 a base 12 rets; and I do hereby declare l and a ring 13, the edge portion of the base 12 being bent upon the ring 13, the latter being beaded as at 14 so that its inner portion 15 concentric with its central opening is somewhat resilient. The socket part 8 likewise includes a socketmember 16 comprising an inner section 17 and an outer section 18, the
edge of the latter being lappedupon the A former to connect the two. The inner sec tion 17 is formed with central resilient substantially tubular portion 19 including an annular groove 20 afforded by annular beads 21 and 22 on each side thereof, the edge of the portion 19 being formed with outwardly bent resilient spurs 23 which are designed to en gage under the portion 15 of the ring 13 and to thus effect the detachable engagement between the back member 11 and the socket member 16, it being understood that the back wall 5 has an opening through which the tubular ortion 19 is engaged, the fabric of said bac wall being held between the members 11 and 16. The ball part 9 comprises a base 24 from one side of which there is an axial, projecting, outstanding, rounded, protuberance 25 being formed with an annular groove 26 in which engages a split resilient ring 31 held between the sections 17 and 18 of the member 16. When the part 9 is engaged with the part 8 in this manner the base.
24 bears against the face of the section 18. Said base 24 is formed in its outer face with a centrally located threaded recess 27 in which is engaged the threaded elongated shank 28 of the fastening part 10, the latter being of a substantial hook-shape and including a curved bill 29 the end of which is adapted to contact with the outer face of the base 24. In use, the socket part 8 is engaged with the back wall 5 of the pocket in the manner set forth. The bill 29 is engaged with the ring 30 of the watch stem and the part 10 is rotated, being understood that the shank 28 is engaged in the recess 27. The bill 29 eventually engages the outer face of the base 24 as a sto to limit the rotation of the member 10 anc in such engagement coacts with said base to aflord a closed loop in which the ring 30 is confined. The ball part 9 is then engaged with the socket part 8 in the manner gagement with the said socket member, the said base having a centrally threaded recess extending from 1ts outer face and a fastening part in the form of a hook and including an 2 described. By virtue of this arrangement the Watch may be instantly removed from the pocket at any time desired by simply disengaging the part 9 from the member 16 of J the part 8 by a manual pull and when rel elongated threaded shank designed to be enplaced in the pocket the part 9 is engaged in. gaged in said recess and a bill. the art 8 in the well known manner. 2. In combination, a socket part formed 'hile the invention has. been arbitrarily for attachment to the wall of a pocket, a ball shown as applied with a watch it is to be unpart formed for detachable engagement with derstood that its uses aremanifold and that said socket part and including a base having the use of a watch is disclosed only for the i a threaded recess and with a fastening part purpose of an example. having a threaded shank for engagement in The invention is simple in its structural said recess, and a hook-shaped bill designed details, inexpensive to manufacture and l to lie in contact with the outer face of said 35 practical and eflicient in use. base.
