Description
No. 886,645. PATENTED MAY 5, 1908 J. E. SAUGIER.
TROLLEY GUARD. APPLICATION FILED nnmao. 1906.
inventor,
I Witnesses: I I jm Attor rm: mmms PETERS can, wnsmucwn, n. z.
' declare that the following is a full,
JEAN E. SAUCIER, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
TROLLEY-GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
V Patented May 5, 1908.
Application filed June 30, 1906. Serial No. 324,131.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN E. SAUCIER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing .at the city and district of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trolley-Guards; and I do hereby clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to trolley guards and finders, and the object of my invention is to provide means for maintaining the trolley wheel in contact with the trolley wire during variations in its travel over the same and, my invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as herein illustrated, described and claimed.
In the accom anying drawings, forming part of this app ication, I have illustrated one form of embodiment of my invention, in which drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the up er portion of a trolley pole, showing my trolley guard in position; Fig. 2 is a to plan of the same Fig. 3 is a bottom plan 0 the same.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates an ordinary ing plate. Secured on either side or both sides of the plate 1 are de ending flanges or guards 2, having their encs diverging and coincident with the line of direction of the trolley wires secured to the plate 1. The plate 1 is adapted to be supported by span wires 3 in the ordinary way.
A common form of trolley pole 6, provided with a bifurcated upper end 7, an axle 8, and a trolley wheel 9, has pivoted thereto on the axle 8 a yoke 10. Secured to the lower end of the yoke 10 is a spring 11, adapted to bear on the upper end of the trolley pole 6.
Carried by the upper end of the yoke 10, is
' a roller 12, adapted to bear on the Wire 4 form of overhead trolley support-.
' Carried by the yoke 10 is a bar 14, to which the ordinary rope 15 may be attached.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A trolley guide and finder comprising, in combination, a trolley pole, a yoke pivotally mounted on the upper end of said pole, said yoke comprising two divergent arms, a portion disposed at an angle to said arms and adapted to lie beneath the aforesaid trolley pole, a spring seated in said portion and adapted to bear against the under face of said pole to maintain the opposite end of said yoke elevated, and a contact and guide roller mounted in said opposite end.
2. A trolley guide and finder comprising, in combination, a trolley pole, a yoke pivotally mounted on the upper end of said pole, said yoke comprising two divergent arms, a portion disposed at an angle to said arms and adapted to lie beneath the aforesaid trolley pole, a spring seated in said portion and adapted to bear against the under face of said pole to maintain the aforesaid end of said yoke elevated, a contact and guide roller mounted in said opposite end, and a bar connecting the aforesaid divergent arms at a point between the end of the trolley pole and said guide and contact roller, to which the usual operating rope may be attached.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
JEAN E. SAUOIER.
Witnesses:
