Description

PATBNTED APR. 28, 190a.
A. A; PINDSTOFTB. BOTTLING APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED OUT. 4, 1906. I

ANEERS ANDERSEN PIND STOFTE, OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.
BOTTLING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. October 4, 1906.
Patented April 28, 1908.
Serial No. 337,539.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDERs ANDERsEN mark, residing at Frederiksberg All No. 62,
Y Copenhagen, in the Kingdom of Denmark,
have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottling Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The invention has for its object improvements in bottling a paratus in which durin the filling of the bottles they are presse against an elastic mouthpiece on the filling ipe, the especial object being to sup ort the bottle table in such a manner that when the bottles are being changed the table is readily and speedily movable upwards and downwards under the influence of an approximately equal counterweight, while on the other hand when the bottle is being filled it is firmly held a ainst the mouthpiece on the filling pipe un er the influence of a larger counterweight.-
A constructional form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which represents a vertical section through a bottling apparatus, some parts being in elevation.
On the frame a the supply pipe I) for the liquid is supported. One or more cooks c with filling pipes d are arranged on the supply pipe I) and during filling the bottles are pressed against their elastic mouthpieces 6. Each bottle is carried by a table f the guide rod 9 of which passes through guiding parts in the frame a and is provided with an intermediate piece h in two parts. In this part h there is movably mounted a pulley '5 around which a chain or cord is runs so that the bottle table is carried by this chain. One end of the chain is fixed in a projection Z on the frame a, while the other end is carried over a roller m mounted in the frame to a counterweight n which is carried by the chain, its weight approximately corresponding to that of the table when carrying an empty bottle, the counterweight 'n which is provided with a number of teeth suspended in a heavy or spring loaded hollow weight 12 carrying a two-armed locking pawl r, the arm 8 of which normally enga es one of the teeth 0 through a slot g in the ollow Weight 19, so that the counterweight n carries the weight p. Consequently the two Weights are coupled together and form normally a single heavy counterweight.
By means of suitable mechanism mounted PINDsToFTE, manufacturer, subject of Denin the frame, for example by means of a treadle '0 mounted'in the lower part of the frame a the heavy weight p may be lifted. When the weight p is lifted the upper arm t of the pawl r en ages a projection u on the frame a, th'ereby bringing the pawl arm 8 out of engagement with the teeth of the counterweight n, so that the connection between the weights 7 and p is broken, and the bottle table is counterbalanced by the weight 7b.
When the treadle v is released the weight p returns to its normal position and the arm 3 of the pawl r rengages with the teeth 0. Consequently the two weights are again coupled together and the bottle table is again counterbalanced by the combined weights 'n and p.
The operation is as follows: When a bottle is to be applied to a filling pipe (Z, the weight p is lifted by means of the treadle V thereby bringing the pawl member 8 out of engagement with the counterweight n. Then, still pressing on the treadle v, the bottle table may e moved downwards without exerting any force and the empty bottle placed upon it. Now if it is desired to again raise the table until the mouth of the bottle resting upon it bears against the elastic mouth iece e, the treadle 'v is released, thereby allowing the weight 19 to descend somewhat. At the same time the pawl member s of the pawl 1 will move through the slot 9 and engage in one of the teeth 0 thereby connecting the weight p with the weight n and pressing the bottle to be filled against the mouthpiece e. Consequently the changing of the bottles presents no difliculty, does not necessitate any strenuous effort and proceeds speedilyv and uniformly; In addition to this the arrangement described presents the further advantage that the application of the bottle to the mouthpiece is effected by the raised counterweight readily, without friction and invariably uniformly, whether the bottle is large or small, and the chain may be lengthened or shortened by varying its attachment to the projection Z.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination of a supporting frame-work, a feed-pipe mounted thereon and rovided with a suitable outlet, a ver tical y-movable bottle-carrying table mounted beneath said outlet, a weight mounted. in the frame-work of said apparatus, means for raising said weight, a counter-weight mounted within said weight and provided with a plurality of teeth, a pawl mounted on the first-named weight and adapted to engage said teeth, a pulley mounted on said bottlecarrying table, a second pulley mount-ed on said frame-work, and a chain connected to said frame-work and to said counter-weight and riding over said pulleys.
2. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination of a supporting frame-work, a feed-pipe mounted thereon and provided with asuitable outlet, a bottlecarrying table movably mounted beneath said outlet, a weight movably mounted in said frame-work, a plurality of pulleys mounted on said table and on said framework, a chain secured to said frame-work and riding over said pulleys, means for raising said weight, a counterweight mounted within said weight and connected to said chain and provided with a plurality of teeth and a pawl member secured to the firstnamed weight and adapted to lock said counter-weight to said weight, for the pur pose described.
3. In an apparatus of the character de scribed, the combination of a suitable framework, a feed-pipe mounted thereon and provided with an outlet having an elastic mouthpiece, a bottle carrying table movably mounted beneath said outlet, a weight slidably mounted in said frame-work, means for raising said weight, a plurality of pulleys mounted on said table and on said framework, a counter-weight mounted within the first-named weight and provided with teeth on one side thereof, a chain secured to said frame-work and riding over said pulleys and having its other end secured to said counterweight, and a pawl member secured to the first-named weight and adapted to engage the teeth of said counter-weight.
4. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination of a fl'ttll'lO-WOlli, a feed-pipe mounted thereon and provided with a suitable outlet having an elastic mouth-piece, a vertically movable bottlecarrying table mounted beneath said mouthpiece, a weight suitably mounted in said frame-work, means for raising said weight, a counter-weight located within said weight, a plurality of pulleys mounted on said table and on said frame-work, a chain connected to said frame-work and riding over said pulleys and secured at its other end to said counter-weight, a rack formed on one side of said counter-weight, and a pawl member pivotally mounted on the lirst-namml weight and adapted to engage the rack of said counter-weight.
I11 testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
