To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD WV. BODMER, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful ,Improvements in Quill Pens, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in ens and has relation more particularly to qui l pens.

It is an object of the invention to provide novel means in a pen of this kind whereby the quill pen may be employed as a fountain pen. v

It is also an object of the invention to provide novel means in a device of this character whereby the feed or fountain means isemployed to retain a pen point within the quill.

Furthermore, it is an object of this invention to provide a novel device of the character noted, possessing advantages in points of efficiency, simplicity and durability, proving at the same time comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accom anying drawinos forming part of this specification whereinike characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which- Figure 1, is a view partly in elevation and partly in section of the invention. Fig. 2, is a similar view illustratingl a modified form of invention. Fig. 3, is a fragmentary view illustrating another modified form of the invention.

In the drawings 1, denotes a quill which is provided adjacent its lower end with an opening 2, through which passes a flexible tubing 3. This tubing terminates adjacent the free or open end of the quill 1, and is adapted to retain the' point 4, in operative position. This is effected by inserting the point between the tube 3, and the inner wall of the quill as is thought to be -fully shown in the Specification of Letters Patent.

The tubing 3, is intended to act as the fluid reservoir and may be filled in any desired manner although it has been found in practice that by bending tlie tube as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and inserting the quill within the ink supply, the return of the tubing to its normal position will cause a filling of the tube.

In Fig. 2, the structure is approximately the same as in Fig. 1, except that the opening 6, is positioned much farther up on the quill, and the tube 7, is within the quill S a greater portion of its length. This form of invention also illustrates an additional means of filling the tube. The exterior end of the tubing 7, is provided with the bulb 9, which performs its function in the well known manner.

In Fig. 3, a still 'further slightly modified form of invention is illustrated. In this' form, the well known quill pen is employed and the tubing 10, terminates within the quill adj aeent the split or slotted portion 11, thereof.

I/Vhat I claim is:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a fountain pen comprising a hollow body, a flexible tubing exterior of the body extending within the body terminating adjacent the writing end thereof, said tubing acting as a reservoir.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a 'fountain pen comprising a hollow body having a perforation and a flexible tubing exterior of the body extending within the hollow body through the perforation thereof and terminating adjacent the writing end of the hollow body, said tubing acting as a reservoir.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a fountain pen comprising a hollow body, a flexible tubing exterior of the. body extending within the body terminating adjacent the writing end thereof, said tubing acting as a reservoir, and a writing member held between the flexible tubing and the inner wall of the hollow body.
