To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILEY TURNER BOYD, a resident of Ellenton, in the county of Manatee and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receivers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improved receiver attachment for telephones and thelike, the object of the invention being to provide a receiver which will convey the sound to both ears to the exclusion of all other sounds, and which is extremely simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, neat and attractive in appearance, and which can be adjusted to fit the head of any user and be self sustaining, leaving both hands free.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation illustrating my iin rovements assembled and Figs. 2, 3, 4, SAIL 5 are detail views of the parts detached.

1 represents a telephone receiver, screwthreaded atits end, and in installing my improvements on new phones I preferably make the ordinary receiver about half the length it is usually made. A cap 2 is screwed to the threaded end of receiver 1 closing the same with the exception of openings com-- municating with nip les 3, the latter to receive thick flexible ru ber tubes 4, and as the nipples 3 are inclined away from each other, the tubes 4 will normally flare apart, for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.

cured, and steel clamping bands 7 are provided around tubes 4 to secure them to the nipples 3 and 5.

A ring or loop 8 is located around the tubes 4 and it will be seen that by moving the ring 8 up on the tubes 4, the ear pieces 6 will be moved toward each other and into the ears of the user and will hold the ear pieces in the ears, dispensing with any other support for the receiver and leaving the users hands free.

By this construction the receiver can be adjusted to-fit any head and can be readily attached to any phone in use as well as to new phones, phonographs, etc., and a great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence, I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters- Patent is The combination with 'a receiver provided with a removable cap, of divergent nipples projecting from said cap and communicating with the interior of the receiver, flexible tubes secured at one end to said nipples, rigid ear tubes secured to the other ends of said flexible tubes, and a ring embracing and movable on the flexible tubes and cooperating therewith to form flexible adjustable clamping means for the rigid ear tubes.
