Description

PATENTED APR. 14, 1908.
G. RADER. PLASTER 0R COMPOSITION BOARD.
APPLIOATION FILED FEB.21, 1908.
GUSTAVE RADER, OF MONTOLAIR, NEW JERSEY.
PLASTER OR COMPOSITION BOARD.
Specification of Letters Batent.
Patented April 14, 1908.
Application filed February 21, 1908. Serial No. 416,996.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVE RADER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montclair, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plaster or Composition Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved plaster-board for covering walls, ceilings, etc., which plaster-boards are made ready for use so that they can be directly applied to a wall or ceiling in sucha manner that the wall-paper or other covering can be directly pasted thereto without requiring a finishing coating for the plaster-boards; and for this purpose the invention consists of a plasterboard which comprises a layer of plaster of paris and a face-layer of paper which is united with the layer of plaster of paris by means of projections or anchors made on the rearside of the paper, as will be fully described hlereinafter and finally pointed out in the c alm.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved plaster-board, Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line 2, 2, Fig. 1, and 'Fig 3 is a perspective rear-view of the paper face-layer or coverin of the plasterboard.
Similar letters of reference-indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, it represents a layer of plaster of paris which is mixed with suitable fibers, and b a face-layer of paper. The layer a is made in any suitable thickness and size, as required for the purpose to be used, while the face-layer of paper is roughened at its rear-surface so as to form projections or anchors b.
The projections or anchors b are made on the rear surface of the aper by means of a wire-brush, toothed rol er or other suitable means, in a quick and uniform manner. The layer of plaster of paris and fibers is then cast over the roughened surface of the paper, so that the projections or anchors enter into the plastic body'of plaster of aris and unite intimately therewith, where y the reliable connection between the body of the plaster and the paper layer is obtained. The facelayer of paper imparts not only considerable strength to the plaster-board as it protects the same against injury and breakage while in transit or,when handled, but forms also a smooth finish by which the finishing coat of plaster is dispensed with, so that the wallpaper or other covering can be applied directly to the face-paper and forms an intimate connection therewith.
Having thus described my invention, I
- claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A plaster-board consisting of a layer of plaster of paris, and a face-layer of paper united with the same by projections or an.- chors formed on the rear-side of the paper.
2. A plaster or composition board consisting of a layer of plastic material or composition and a face-layer of suitable fabric united with the same by specially made integral projections or anchors formed on the rear side of the fabric.
3. A laster or composition board consisting of a ayer of plaster of paris and fiber, and a face-layer of suitable fabric united with the same by specially made integral projections or anchors formed on the rear side of the fabric.
4. A plaster-board composed of a layer of plastic material, and a face-layer of paper united by rojections or anchors at its rearside with the layer of plastic material.
5. A plastic-board consisting of a rearlayer of plaster of paris, and a face-layer of paper united with the same by projections or anchors formed on the rear-surface of the paper.
6. A plaster-board consisting of a layer of plaster of paris and fiber mixed, anda facelayer of paper united at its rear-side by means of projections or anchors with the layer of plaster of paris.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAVE RADER. Witnesses:
PAUL GoEPnL. HENRY J. SUHRBIER.
