COMBINED HARBOW AND ROLLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 14, 1908.
Application filed December 1'7, 1907. Serial No. 406,847.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, ALVIN HAYEs, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Medina, in the county of Medina and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in (.ombined Harrows and Roll ers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in combined barrows and rollers; and an object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which will be simple in c0nstruction, cheap in manufacture and efficient in. operation.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of this character with load-supports which may be adjusted along the frame to vary the point of application of the load. In the drawings illustrating the principle of my invention and the best mode now known to me of applying that princi le, Figure 1 is a plan of my new combiner harrow and roller; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof;
direction of the arrow; and Fig. 4 is a sectional detail illustrating the mode of connection of the load supports to the frame.
In my new combined. harrow and roller, the frame is very simple consisting of two side-bars a in which is journaled at the rear a roller b. The front ends of the side-bars are connected by the load-support c which is adjustably attached to each side-bar by means of the hooks d, the upper end of each of which extends through an end of the loadsupport and is held in place by a nut e. In the rear of the load-support c are journaled in the side-bars a two rotatable harrows f the teeth 9 of each of which travel in the intervals between teeth of the other harrow. Be-
justably mounted upon the side-bars a the rear load-support h near the middle of which is secured the seat standard 11. The rear load-support h may like the front loadsup port 0 be moved along the side-bars a so as to adjust the point of application of the load. The loadsupports are ada ted to carry rocks, stone and the likeby w ich the device is suitably weighted for the purpose in View. l
The whole device is hauled along the ground by means of draft devices which are attached to the front load support c.
The device is very simple in construction and the parts are so arranged with reference to the side-bars a that they-may be quickly assembled and may be easily taken apart for repair or for the substitution of broken or worn parts by new parts.
I claim:
1. A combined harrow and roller consisting of a pair of side-bars a roller journaled in said side-bars at one end thereof; a load-support adapted to carry rocks, stone and the like and attached at each of its ends to one of said side-bars at the other end thereof; a second load-support attached to said side-bars in front of said roller; and a pair of harrows journaled in said side-bars between said load-supports.
2. A combined harrow and roller consisting of a pair of side-b ars a roller journaled in said side-bars at one end thereof; a load-support adapted to carry rocks, stone and the like and attached at each of its ends adjustably to one of said side-bars at the other end thereof; draft devices attached to said lead support; a second load support adjustably attached to said side-bars in front of said roller and harrow devices. journaled in said side-bars between said load-supports.
3. A combined harrow and roller consisting of a pair of side-bars; a load-support adapted to carry rocks, stone and the like and attached to said side-bars; a roller journaled in said sidebars; a second load-support attached to said side-bars between said roller and the first-named load-support and free to be shifted along said side-bars; and harrow devices between said load-supports, said devices being journaled in said sidebars.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twenty sixth day of November A. D. 1907 at said Medina in the presence of the two undersigned witnesses.
F. W. Woons, W. E. GRIESINGER.
