Letters Patent No. 88,224, dated March 23, 1869.
- IMPROVED COMPOUND ron COLORING 'rnr: HAIR The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, Giesox SMITH, of Groton J unc- I lion,.in the town of Groton, county of Middlesex, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, did, in the month of March, 1867 invent a new Compound for Coloring, -Preserving,-and Beautifying the Human Hair, which compound I have named Natures Hair Restorative.
Said compound is composed of, by weight, one part of hyposulphite of soda, thirteen parts of soft water, and three parts of rose-water; and I further declare that, from the time of its first invention up to the present period, 1 have experiment-ed with the same upon my own hair, and upon the hair of numerous other persons, with the following results: It imparts a dark shade to gray hairs, and imparts a beautiful glossy appearance. It renders the hair soft andfxiioist. It removes all dandruff from the scalp. It is cool'and refreshing to the head. It prevents the hairfalliug off.
It removes all humors, cutaneous eruptions, and unnatural heat from the head, and often prevents headaches. It is transparent, and clear as water. The face and hands and the whitest linen'may be washed in it without receiving the slightest stain.
\Vhat I elaimas my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A new and improved mode of imparting a dark shade to gray hairs, and for restoring, preserving, and beautifying the hair by the use of hyposulphite of soda, as employed in my compound described in this specification.
