'To all Iwhom it may concern:
Be it known that l, GEORGE F. Fnnnn, of Allegheny, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania,A have invented n new and useful Lifting-Jack, of which the following it full, Clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speriiiention, in whieh- Figures i and 2 are side elevations of a. lifting jack ,embodying my invention, taken from opposite sides, the actuating lever being broken away; Fig. 3 is it detail view of the bearings for the actuating lever; and Fig. 4L is zi side elevatifui, showing a modified form ily invention has relation to lifting jacks of that elnss commonly known ratchetl le ver.
With these objects in. view, my invention consists in the novel eoiistruetion, arrangement, and Combination of parts, all substantially hereinafter described :ind pointed outin the appended elnims.
ln the drawings, 2 desigimtes the frame of the jack, nud I the ini-losing easing for the ger. ing and other operativeparts.
L. desiginites the usual lifting bnr which is mounted for vertical movement iii guides 5 of the. frame 2 rind whioh is actuated in the 'forni of jerk shown in Figs. l and 2, by means of the pinion 6 on the shaft 7 ol the gear wheel 8. i. ".3 the lifting pnwl, which will also he hereinafter referred to ns the short pziwl, sind i() is the holding or retaining pnwl, whieli will also be referred to hereiiml'tei' iis the long piiwl. rllhe pziwl E) is pivotiillv eoiiiierted to ythe short. nrm ol' the actuating livrer El it il, while the long pnwl l() is pizoted in the. i'rnme 2 on the shalt or pin Athrough the medium of' the pinion 6.
l0, both pa'wls being arranged to engage the teeth of the gear wheel S iii the manner hereinafter described.
l2 is a. spring which is eoiineeted nt one end to the pawl 9 and at itsopposite end to :t in 12aL of i shifting device, or lowering )lock 13 which is arranged to be moved on a guide 13 horizontally towards and away from the pawl 9 by nieiinsol' :in eeeentrie 14, pivoted at l5 to the frame 2. i6 is a. similar spring which is eonneoted at one end to'a pin or projection of the pnwl l() and at its opposite end to ii dog 17 pivoted to the frame 2 .nt 18, and having it rei-.ess Il) which is engaged hy :t linger 2() of the lowering block 13.
2l is it enni or guide, whose inner curved face is engaged hy :i projeetion 22 ol" the awl 9 for the purpose ol' loreing siiid pnwl inwardly into engagement with the teeth ofthe gear wheel S, in the manner hereinafter described. This i'zim guide is movably connected with the trame 2 by the pin or serew 223, and zilsQi-esis upon :i pin or projection 24, its upper end being engaged by n spring 2,). The short :irm ol the operating lever l] is connected with the pnwl l() through the iuediuni of n rod 26, slotted link or yoke 27, and spring 2H, the spring heilig sented between the nul, 29 :it the upper ond of the i'od 26 :ind the bottom olI the lslot in the link or yoke, through which the upper eiid portion o'l'A the rod 26 loosely extends. 'l`he oi'iera-tion of raising :i loud consists in actuating the socket or operating lever l]7 thereby' causing the short pziwl J to engage the teeth ot the geur wheel S :ind move sn'id geni' wheel, and thereby the lifting har 4 This operation is etl'eeted, ofcourse, by the downward movement ot' the lover l l the long pztwl i() holding the, loiid while the lover is boing raised. The operation in this respeetis siibstantiolly siiiuliir to that of other lifting jacks.
