Description

No. 880,729. PATENTED MAR. a, 1908.
T. J. GREEN.
SUBSOIL PLOW.
APPLICATION FILED JULY1 5, 1907.
THOMAS J. GREEN, OF ANDALUSIA, ALABAMA.
SUB SOIL-PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 15. 1907- Serial No. 383.942.
Patented March 3, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Andalusia, county of Covington, and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Subsoil-Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sub-soil plows.
The object of the present invention is the provision of a subsoil plow of novel construction adapted for use on any kind of a single or double plow stock to run in the furrow behind a turner although it may be also used on a two or three-footed cultivator.
By the provision of a novel surface configuration, as also exterior contour, the present plow is adapted to sub-soil or plow out the cro with but one running.
The lnvention is set forth fully hereinafter and its novel features are recited in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a front or face View; Fig. a section on line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, an edge view; Fig. 4, a cross-section on line 44 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 5, a cross-section on line 55 of Fig. 1.
The shank or stem is shown at 1 and the point at 2, the outer contour or margin of the point being ovoidal and shading off to a comparatively sharp edge 3.
At 4 there is a ridge extending inwardly from the tip 5 for a certain distance in the longitudinal axis of the plow-point and terminating at 6 in a more or less ovoidalshaped flat surface 7 which is somewhat dished (Fig. 3) from 6 to 8 where the surface 9 slopes upwardly t0 the shank 1. The up per part, including the slope 9, is transversely curved (Fig. 5). From the flat surface 7 to the edge 3 and from the ridge 4. to the edge 3 there is a slope 10. The ridge 4 outs, splits or slices the earth which is laid to opposite sides of the flat surface 7 by the slope 10, the flat surface 7 lifting or bulging the earth upward, the general upward slope of the plow-point from 5 to 9 continuing the action.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
A sub-soil plow having on its front face a ridge extending inwardly from its point or tip and flanked by transversely inclined slopes leading backward toward the rear of the plowpoint and a flat surface located back of the ridge and also flanked by the rearward parts or branches of said slopes.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS J. if GREEN.
