The section 6 is slotted at one side, and to this side is secured a strip 9 of insuletin material which closes the slot and is provided with a series of contacts 10, 10. A float 11 is confined in the section 6, and is provided with wheels or rollers 12, 12 and 13, 13 at its lower and upper ends respectively. The float 11 is so constructed and balanced. that it will rise and fall in accordance with the variations in the height of'the heavy liquid 8 which can lie mercury or other liquid.

What I-claim-is:- V 1. The combination with a main or conduit for the flowing stream, of tubes 1 and 2 connected therewith, a U-tube B containing a heavy liquid, afloat in one of the legs of said U-tube, electrical contacts along the 'side of said leg, conductors extending from said contacts, magnets to which said conductors are connected, pencils carried by the armatures of. said magnets, a rotary drum pgessu're in the main A, and thusa associated withsaid pencils, and means for rotating said drnnu substantially as described.
