SYRINGE Specification of Iletters Patent.
Patented March 3, 190s.
Application iledl'nne 11. 1907- Serial No. 378.399.
To all lwhom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK C. BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and 5 State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Syringe, of which the following is a specification. C
This invention relates to syringes and has for its'princi al object to provide a syringe 10 of very Simp e and economical construction having both inlluent and effluent tubes and in which provision is made for adjusting the position of the eluent tube or nozzle so that the discharge may be drained oil` at any desired point.
A further object of the invention is to pro-.
vide a device of this character in which the several parts may be readily detached, and further to provide for the em loyment of interchangeable cap pieces of di 'erent size so that the length of the syringe may be altered as required.
With these and other objects in view,`as will more fully hereinafter a pear, the invention consists in certain nove features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended clalms, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportions size and minor details of the structure may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings z-Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a syringe constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 2-2 of F1g.1. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the device. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fi is a detail view of a mbdiiication.
imilar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts throughout 45 the several figures of the drawings.
The syringe forming the subject'of the presentinvention is made of-hard rubber, aluminium or other suitable material, and includes a head member 10 and a base 11, these being united by a plurality of integral bars 15 that are s acedfrom each other in order to permit t discharge.
The head '10 has a reduced threaded forward end on which maybe screwed a ca piece 16 that is provided with perforations or the e ready outflow-of the lateral discharge of the spray, the device being so constructed that cap pieces of any 'size may be employed for the purpose of altering the length of the syringe, as desired. The
'head 10 is provided with an internally threaded opening for thercceptionofl the threaded inner end of an iniuent'tube 17 that extends throughv the base 11 and is pro.- vided with a ni ple 18 to which may be attached av iexib e hose or the like leading from a source of fluid supply.
The base 11 is approximately ovate in general contour and its inner face is rounded or concaved in order to close the vulva while the interior of the base is hollow and forms a chamber into which the -luid to be discharged will low.
In the outer face of the base 11 is a threaded opening of large diameter, andinto this opening is screwed a threaded disk 20 that carries a discharge nipple 21 to which may be connected a discharge pipe, it being observed that the disk 20 may be rotated in order to adjust the nipple circumferentially of the nipple 18, and thus present the discharge nipple in a position most convenient forthe operator, this being of considerable importance. in practical use where the position of the patient varies.
The base of the nipple 18 is provided with a shoulder 22 that abuts against the outer face of the disk 2() and by screwing the nipple and tube 17 tightly into the threaded opening in the head 18 all danger of leakage around the influent tube is prevented, and at the same time a lock is formed which holds the disk 20 in any position of circumferential adjustment.
It will not, of course, be necessary in all cases to em loy screw threads as the connecting means etween the disk and the vulva closin base, inasmuch as these parts may be provi ed with interitting flanges, and, if necessary, a suitable packing ring may be introduced between them, as shown, for instance, in Fig. 5.
1. In a syringe, a connected head and base, the latter being hollow and provided with an enlarged face plate, said plate having an openingfa disk circumferentially adjustable within said opening and carrying a discharge .nipplle that communicates with the` interior .of t
in the disk and having a threaded connection with the head member, said tube having a shouldered ni ple engageable against the outer face of t e disk and forming a lock to hold the latter in adjusted position.
2. In a' syringe of the class described, a connected head member and base, the latter having an enlarged face plate and being hollow to collect the discharge, said face plate having a circular opening, a disk circumferentially adjustable in said openin a discharge nipple carried b the disk an adjustable therewith, an in uent tube extending through a central opening in the disk and havin a threaded end en aging with a threa ed' opening in the hea member, said tube being provided with a shouldered ni ple that engages against the outer face of t e disk and binds the latter in adjusted osition, and a detachable cap piece carrie by the head member.'
v 3. In a syringe of the class described, a
headmemberand base connected by integral spaced bars, said head member having an internally threaded opening and the base be' hollow and enlarged to close the vulva, sai
base havingv a threaded opening in its outer face, a threaded disk mounted in said opening, a discharge nipple carried b the disk and adjustable therewith, an in nent tube extending through ,a central opening in the disk and threaded at its inner end to engage with the threaded opening of the head member, said tube being provided with a shouldered nipple arranged to bind against the outer face of the disk and hold the latter in adjusted position.-
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of twov witnesses.
FRANK C. BARNES.
