To all-whom ltfma/y l Be it known that I, J Mns L. LnvDnRMAN, of Rockford, inthe county of Winnebago, and State of Illinois,
.have invented a new and useful'lmprovement in Seed- Sowers; and I do hereby. declare that the following is aiull and exact description of the same, reference being of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to certain improvements in seed-sewers; and consists in regulating the delivery` of grain from the seed-wheel to the tubes of a. seeding-mahad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters chine; and also in an improved. device for agitating, Aor stirring the same, to which end certain details of constructed in the usual manner, provided with the partitions -a wheels.
a represents the seed-channels between the partia, between which revolve thedeliverytions a a, which are composed of the vertical partition az and the slot a3, in the bottom of the seed-box.
B represents a metal flap, or apron, attached tothe longitudinal rod b, to the outer endof which is rigidly attached the lever b, extending 'across theend of the seed-box; and having the handle bz and projection b3,-
which is provided with a screw-thread.
O represents a curved and slotted guide-bar, with a curvature corresponding to the arc of a circle described by the lever b, in which works the projection b", being contined therein by the set-screw c.
C' represents the driving-shaft within the seed-box, upon which are located the delivery-wheels. C2 represents rods running transversely through the shaft O, outside of the partitions a a, which are pro- 'vided with orifices in their loweredges. These rods are adjustable, and may project equally far on both sides of theshaft, or they may be so arranged that their. whole length may be on one side. Their function Vis to force the grain through, and to keep the same from clogging in the partitions a a.
The'operation of my invention is as follows:
The hopper being filled with grain, and motion being imparted to the shaft C in any desired manner, the rods (Il2 are operated, which force a greater or less quantity of grain through the orices, according as they are adjusted.
When the delivery-wheel throws too much seed into the channels, the end of the lever b is raised, which turns the apron B outward and upward, thereby covering the apertures to as great an extent as the operator desires. The lever is heldin place by the setv screw c. e
