HAND-PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1908.
I Application filed June 12. 1907- Serial No. 378.589.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that 1, CHARLES S. ERGEN- BRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Caney, in the county of Montgom cry and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand- Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to a new and useful hand-disk-plow, and the objectthereof is to provide a device of this character, which is simple and efficient in construction, and comparatively easy to operate.
The invention aims, as a further object, to provide a device, havingthe disks adjustably connected with rearwardly extending arms, of a U-sha ed portion, which is supported by suitable wieels, as clearly shown in the ac companying drawings.
This invention comprises further objects and combinations of elements which will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out in the appended claims. v
To obtain a full and correct understanding of the details of construction, combinations of features, elements and advantages, reference is to be had to the hereinafter set forth description and the accompanying drawings in connection therewith, wherein,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the plow, illustrating the principal features thereof. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the fourway joint member, and the connection of the disks, with the rearwardly extending arms. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the fourway joint member detached. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the disks, their axle and their adjustable connection. Fig. 5 is a detail viewsimilar to Fig. 4, showing 3 disks combined.
Making renewed reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the several illustrations, by figure, 1 designates wheels, which are mounted on stubaxles 2, which are journaled in bearings 3 of the four-way joint members 4 and 5, as clearly shown. These joint members are provided with a vertically disposed bore 6,
which receive the side arms 7 and 8, of the U-shaped member9, as clearly shown. Below these bores, the said arms of the U- shaped member are bent at right angles thereto, as at 10, and then they are shaped into a compound curve, as at 11, and then the members formed by the compound curves receive at their extreme end a socket member 12, which is secured thereto by thumb screws.
Extending through the socket members and at right angles "thereto, are vertically disposed shafts 14, which are held adjustably therein, by thumb screws 15. Each one of the shafts 14, is provided with a T-joint 16 through which the axles of the disks pass: Each axle is held in its bearing, that is, adjustably, by a thumb screw 17, as clearly shown. Each four-way joint member has extending rearwardly therefrom, arms 18 which connect as at 19, to a bar 20, which is provided with a cross bar forming a handle 21 for the plow, as clearly illustrated in the drawings.
As shown in Fig. 4, the disks 27 are connected by an axle 24*.
In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the combination of three disks are mounted on two axles 23 and 24, which are connected together by the screw-threaded projection 26 which engages the screwthreaded portion 25, as clearly shown.
It is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be employed in the construction and embodiment thereof, combinations of features and elements without in any way departing from the spirit and scope of the invention covered by the claims thereof: it being understood that whatever variations or modifications are employed must fall within the scope of the appended claims.
From the foregoing, the essential features, elements and the operation of the device, together with the simplicity thereof, will be clearly apparent, and when manufactured. in accordance with the invention, an inexpensive market will be easily obtained therefor.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful by the protec tion of Letters-Patent, is:
' A hand plow comprising a U-shaped memextend at right angles to the U-shaped member having its arms bent at right angles thereber. V 10 to and into a compound curve, four-way In testimony whereof I affix my signature joint members mounted upon the side arms in presence of two witnesses.
5'of the said U-shaped member, stub-axles CHARLES S. ERGENBRIGHT.
carried by said four-way joint members, said Witnesses: axles having wheels journaled thereon "and J. G. PRICE,
disks adjustably carried by the arms which W. F. GLEEOK.
