Description

A. G. GOLSON.
PIG FOROEPS.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 12. 1907.
THE mmms PETERS cm, wnsmnanm. n. cy
ABRAM G. GOLSON, OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
PIG-FORCEPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1908.
Application filed August 12.1907. Serial NO. 388.098.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAM G. CoLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Des Moines, county of Polk, and State of Iowa, having invented a new and useful Im rovement in Pig-Forceps, of which the fol owing is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a set of pig forceps simple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction, in which the wire which constitutes the handle will be provided with a double guide, and the wire which constitutes the gripping portion will be provided with a single guide.
My invention consists of certain details of construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure I shows a perspective view of my device, illustrating all the parts.
Referring to the accompanying drawings the reference numeral 10 is used to indicate the handle and main guide portion of my device, the whole being constructed of one piece of strong, stiff wire bent at one of its extremities so as to form the handle 11, the main portion of the wire extending forwardly therefrom for a considerable distance where it is looped at 12, as shown in the drawings, the main portion of the wire continuing to extend forwardly from said loop 12, in line with the body of the wire between the handle 11 and loop 12, and terminating in a double loop, 13 and 14, as illustrated in the drawing.
The numeral 15 indicates the gripping portion of my device, being constructed of one piece of flexible, spring wire shaped so as to provide one long oblong loop portion at its forward end, each side of the wire forming the said loop passing through its respective loop of the double loop, at the end of the wire 10, and both of said sides of the wire 15 passing through the loop 12. After passing through the loop 12 the sides of the wire 15 come in contact with each other and are adj acent and parallel the remaining part of their distance, and are bent at their rear extremity so as to provide the handles 16, and the guide loop 17, which overlaps the wire 10 and is designed for forward and rearward movement thereon. It is obvious that by this construction the gripping ortion may readily and easily be operated 'orward and backward on the main guide wire, and that as the gripping wire moves forward the elongated loop at the forward extremity will broaden so as to be adapted to slip over the head of the pig and that as the said wire is pulled backward the said elongated loop will contract and with the assistance of the double looped end of the wire 10, will firmly grasp the pig desired to be extracted.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. In pig forceps the combination of a guide portion comprising a stiff wire bent so as to provide a handle at one of its extremities; a central guide loop; a double guide loop at one extremity of said wire; a gripping portion comprising a flexible wire provided with an elongated loop at its forward extremity, the sides forming said loop assing through their res ective portion 0 the double guide loop an each passing through the central loop; a pair of handles at the rear extremity of said flexible guide wire and a guide loop formed by extending the wire of which said pair of handles are formed-receiving the body of the stiff wire forming the main guide portion, substantially as shown and described.
2. Forceps composed of a guide portion formed of a piece of Wire bent to form a handle at one end thereof, said wire intermediate its ends being bent to form a central guide loop and at its end being bent to form two guide loops, a gripping member consisting of a flexible piece of wire having an elongated loop at its forward end and having the sides forming said loop extending through their respective loop of said two guide loops, and each being also passed through said central loop, the inner end of said flexible piece of wire being bent to form two handles which extend on opposite sides of said guide portion and being further bent to form aguide loop which receives said guide portion. 3. Forceps composed of a guide member having a central guide loop and a pair of guide loops at one end, a gripping member consisting of a flexible piece of Wire having a loops of the guide member whereby said handle and a guide loop receiving said guide gripping member is slidably supported at member formed adjacent one end and having three points along the length of said guide.
its remainder formed into an elongated 100 ABRAM G. COLSON. which has each of its sides passing throug W tnesses: said central loop of the guide member and BLANOHE SEDGWIOK,
through the respective loop of said pair of J. CHASE R011.
