Be it known that I, CnAnLns lll. GUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mai Tsville, in the county of Yuba and State of alifornia, vhave invented certain new and useful Improvements i'n 4Dredgers and Scrapers; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the Same such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to niale and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon., which forni a part of this speciiication.
This inventionrelates to improvements .in
dredging and scraping machines, the object of the invention being to produce such a mafA chine as will automatical r scrape the earth and advance the saine to lan elevating con-` veyer, dump the same onto said conveyer, lmrnediately rise clear of such convever, and
,return to a sera ing position again, all of said movement, ine uding themoveinent of the conveyer, being simultaneous and coperative and actuated bv. a single actuating IIneans. This main object and many minor ores I accomplish by means of drive wheels having pitmen pivotally secur'ed thereto, means for oscillating or vibrating said pitmen, aseraper arrangedin operative connection with said pitmen, and an elevating conveyer operated by the movement of said drive pulleys and arranged in operative connection with said scraper, also by such other and further construction as will appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.

When this position is reached the scraper 39 is adapted tol engage with the earth. The rotation of the 'pulleys 17 then pull the pitmen to the position a, thus causin the beams 38 to rest on the roller 33, w ich action lifts the scraper 39 immediately upward ready for another drive.
'ust described is most advantageous in tiat the most possible weight is thrown on the scraper 39 just as it is to perform its scraping i'unction, thus making the same more eiiective. Then when its function is performed it immediatelyrises clear of the machine ready for l another operation.
The urpose of having the pitmen extend outside of the beams 30 and the beams 38 inside is to permit a freedem of motion to the pitmen and a restricted motion to the beams 38 by the roller 33 as described. The member 33 by means of the members 36-37 and 38 holds the pitmen in suspension, thus restricting the movementl thereof to cause the scraper 39 to properly engage with the plate 28. The pulleys'. 17 and wrist pinsA 34 perform the functions of cranks in oscillating and reciprocating the pitmen 35, hence in the claims I have employed this designation in claiming these elements.
The serrated. bar 42 extending to the rear of the scraper 39 tends to spade and loosen the earth while the scraper is performing its functions, thus rendering it more easily handled by said scraper. As the earth is deposited upon the elt 23 it is lcoiiveyed up- -ward, the oval shaped rollers 24 and the side member 25 and 26 iorm 'ing a trough and holding 'the earth in the center of said belt, thus preventing lit from falling oil the edges. As the earth reaches the top oi the belt 23 it is deposited in the hopper 43 and then distrib-- uted through the chutes 44 to any desired oint. By reason of the binding irons 29 the beams land their parts may be moved to any desired position. The roller 3 permits the front of the machine to be easily turned inany desired direction.
Thus it will be -seen that I have produced a device which is invaluable for dredging and scraping and particularly for ditch making and grading, the Whole' machine and the movement thereof being extremely simple While in this specification I have set forth in detail the present and `preferred construction of my invention, still in practice many small deviatins therefrom may be resorted to in practice without departing froml the Vspirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1- l. In a device of the character described an inclined conveyer, drive pulleys journaled at the top thereof, means for rotating said pulleys, pitmen pivotally secured to the rims ci said pulleys, a scraping means in operative connection with said pitmen, and means whereby oscillating movement imparted to said pitmen will cause said scraper to cut and draw earth to said conveyer, as specified.
.2. In a device of the character described' a frame, cranks journaled therein means for rotating the same, pitmen pivotally secured to said cranks, a scraping means secured to said pitmen, and means restricting the oscill'lation of such pitmen, as described.
3. In a device of the character described,
base beams, upright beams inovably secured to said base beams, a roller disposed between said upright beams, cranks held upward from said base beams, means for driving said cranks, pitmen pivotally secured to said cranks and. extending along the outside ot' said upright beams, cross beams on said pitmen disposed to the front and rear of said upright beams, 'longitudinal beams secured to said cross beams and extending over said roller and between said upright beams, a

4. Ina device of the kind described a conveyer, an oscillating scraper in operative coniiection therewith and. a spading bai' heldvoutward from the rear of said scraper, as specilied.
5. In adevice of the character described a conveyer, an oscillating scraper in operative connection therewith and a serrated spading bar held outwardv from the rear of said scraper, as specified. i
In a device of the character-,described base beams, a cross beam secured to the under side thereofv near the front end, a roller jour# naled in said cross beam, supporting wheels secured to the rear end of said beams, an inclined conveyor held upward from said beams and an oscilla ting scraping means in operative connection with said conveyer, as described.
7. ln a device of the character described base beams, inclined. beams held upward therefrom, rollers disposed between said innear their'lower ends, side beams upward from said plates and secured to said inclined beams by angle irons and extending slightly over the edges of said conveyer belt, and a scraper in operative connection with said conveyer, as specified.
8. In a device of the character described base beams, a cross beam secured to the un der side thereof near the forward end, a roller journaled in said beams, supporting Wheels secured to the rear ends of said base beams, a platform secured at the rear ends of sald base beams, an engine secured to said platform, a worm gear secured to the crank shaft of said engine, said worm gear intermeshing with a screw gear secured on a shaft held upward from said platform, sheave pulleys secured to said shaft, inclined beams eld upward fromsaid base beams, a shaft journaled in the upper ends of said inclined beams, sheave pulleys secured to said shaft, cables connecting said rst and last named pulleys, a roller secured onsaid last named shaft, a roller disposed between said inclined .beams at their lower ends, a conveyer belt disposed over said rollers, pitmen ivotally secured to the rims of said last name pulleys,
means for regulating the oscillation of such pitmen as desired, and a scraper secured to said pitmen, as set forth. y,
9. In a device of the character described a frame, cranks journaled therein, pitmen pivotally secured to said cranks, a scrapinv beams, a roller disposed between said u right members, and means whereby said pltmen are held in suspension on said rollers, as set forth.
