To all whom it may concern! Be it known 'fithat we,- YON- and WINFIELD S. KING, citizens of the United States, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska,
have-invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blocking and Derailing Deyices, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to new and useful improvements for blocking and derailing railway cars; and has for itsobject to provide an improved device of this kind by means of which a railway car coming in contact therewith will be derailed and thrown ofl the track.-
To this end our invention consists in the combinations and details hereinafter described and claimed.

In carrying out our invention we provide an ear 0 which is secured to the web of the track by suitable fastening means, such-as bolts 0 and this ear is provided at its lower portion with a hinge boltc upon which'is mounted a derailingblook I), this derailing block being provided with a web portion 1) and spaced lugs (Z, the web portion 1) being provided with, hinge portions 6 mounted tion bin line with the upon the hinge bolt 0. Between the spaced lugs d we mount an operating rod e by means of which the derailing block may be swung away from the track out of operative position or over the track into operative position. One feature of our derailing block consists in the head thereof, which, as shown, is elongated and has-at one end an inclined portrack. This'inclined portion is of gradual ascent, in orde'rthat the wheels of the car may ride up thereon without undue shock to the derailing head and extends from a point just in adblock. This head is also provided with a derailing flange b which is integral with the vance of the inclined portion b across the track diagonally to the opposite end of the AND DERAILING DEVICE.

This inclined portion is of gradual ascent, in order that the wheels of the car may ride up thereon without undue shock to the derailing block, and it is provided with an ear for the'purpose of guiding and engaging the wheel in its ascent upon the block. We have found by experience that with this construction cars may be run over the block from this end without being thrown-off the track. It will be understood that by means of the operating rod e the derailing block maybe thrown into operative position over the track when it is desired to derail an ap-' will first be elevated by reason of the tread.
