Be it known that I, Join; COLLINS, a citizen of the United States, residing atDayton, in the county of Montgomery and State-of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loading Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described, reference being had-to the accompan 'ng drawings which illustrate one form in w ich I have contemplated embodying my invention and said invention is fully disclosed in the following description and claims.
Referring to the said drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of an apparatus embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 i'sa top plan'view of the apparatus. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same. 'Fi'g. 5'i's a transverse vertical sectional view of the machine, on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
The object of my invention is to provide ban a paratus for removing loose material and disc arging the same, and is particularly designed for removing mined coal or ore in a mine, and for dischargingit into cars or other devices for facilitating its removal from the mine. -The apparatus is, however, applicable to other uses.
My invention consists of a vehicle which is preferably provided with a motor for operatmg the various arts of the mechanism as hereinafter described andalso for pro elling the vehicle forward or backward, an capa-, ble ofbeing steered by the operator. not, however, limit myself to a motor propelled and operated apparatus as the operatmg parts may be driven by hand if desired and the apparatus may be propelled in other ways. Upon the vehicle frame is mounted a conveyer, disposed in a substantially horizontal" or horizontally inclined position and being preferably an endless conveyer such as a belt reinforced by transverse slats, or otherwise constructed. In advance of the forward end of the conveyer is arranged a piv oted scoop, the bottom of which is closely adjacent to the ground and which can berun or'forced beneath a portion of the material 1a to be removed, by advancing the vehicle.

The conveyer is also provided wit 1 mechanism for operating it independently of the scoop, so that the material dumped thereon can be moved rearward far enoug'h'so that it will not fall ofl into the scoo and to provide space for thenext scoop ll, and also for operating the conveyer to run oh and discharge the contents thereof when it 'is fully loaded, and the vehicle has beenmoved into which the contents of the conveyer is to be discharged. I also provide. the conveyer With adjusting mechanism -for its rear or discharge end to enable the same to be raised or lowered to facilitate delivery 'to a car or other ap aratus, when desired.
