T o all whom' it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERIC G. HODELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, yin the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chain Pump-Buckets, and do declare that the -following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which vwill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in chain pump buckets, and the invention consists in a pump bucket having cores or link members in single pieces with rubber buckets removablyT and adjustably mounted thereon,
whereby each complete joint or link of the chain is constituted of two parts only and an exceedingly simple and eilicient construction is afforded having all needed range oi adaptability, all substantially as shown and described and particularly pointed in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention with the bucket in section and in normal position on the core. Fig. 2 shows a sectional elevation of both bucket and core with the bucket adjusted to a spreading position. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the bucket alone and Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of a modification of the core.
Mechanically, the invention consists 'of only two parts, the metallic core or link A, and the rubber bucket or bell shaped member B. Said core or link has the usual eyes 2 at its ends for connection with the other" cores orlinks oi the chain, and is cast with an externallythreaded shank 3 and disk 4 next Ato said shank. Said disk, preferably, has a more or less by rotation on thread 3 and the edge 8 of the bucket rises about the edge of disk 4 and forces the lower edge of the bucket outward correspondingly. It is to be noticed that said lower edge is deepest in cross section by reason of the incline of bevel 8 inward higher up, so that as the bucketis bodily moved upward this wider portion of its edge readily compensates for any looseness or wear that may have come on the parts. Such adjustment is shown in full lines, Fig. 2. This construction also makes it convenient to remove and replace a defective bucket and especial novelty is believed to reside in the core itself in that it is east bodily in one piece with threaded shank and disk and no machine work of any kind is required toprepare the core to receive the disk or the bucket.
Fig. 4 shows a modification of disk in that the disk 9 shown herein has not a beveled edge 5, as in the other views, but is merely round across its edge. The bucket shown will work with this style of disk also, but the 'former construction is preferred because a llat bearing surface 5 on the edge of the disk aflords a broader and better backing Afor the bucket.
What I claim is 1. In chain pump buckets, a metallic core having a threaded shank and a lixed disk at the base of` vthe shank, in combination with a lleXible bucket adjustably screwed on said shank and having an inner annular bevel at its edge engaged beneath the edge of said disk.
2. In chain pump buckets, a metallic core having a threaded shank and a lixed beveled disk integral therewith, in combination with a substantially bell shaped bucket threaded on said shank and having its widest portion engaged about said disk, said widest portion having an internal annular channel provided with a beveled surlace at its bottom portion adapted to match the beveled edge on said disk, whereby the said bucket may be spread to take up wear, substantially as herem set forth.
