APPLICATION IILBD JUNE 6,1908. 7
- Ffyi5- UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE. I
OTTO C. SCHULZ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO BAUER & BLACK, OF CHICAGO,
. ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
RECEPTACLE FOR AN TISEPTIG BANDAGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 3, 1907.
Application filed Juno 6. I906. Serial No. 320,439.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro C. SCHULZ, a citizen of the United States, residingat Chicago, 1n the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Imgrovem'ents in Receptacles for Antiseptic andages, of which the following is a specification.
, My invention relates to rece tacles or boxes containing first aids for t 1e injured such as are carried by soldiers.
More specifically my improvement concerns a metallic box or casket to hold antiseptic. bandages or the like, the receptacles in present ,use employing soldered joints being found .to be quite unsatisfactory because of the large percentage of defective joints.
I have, therefore, produced a hermetically sealed metal box which can be quickly 0 ened without the. use of any tools or app unless, the parts of the box being joined together without the use of solder. These boxes are referably made of co per, tinned inside an painted or enamele outside so that there is no danger whatever of corrosion, or of failure to preserve the bandages in their ori a1 antiseptic condition.
he preferred embodiment of my inventioniI have illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved box or casket; Figs. 2 and 3 are orspective views of the two parts of the -)()X adapted to be partially telescoped Fig. 4 is a View of the binding strip adapted to maintain the two parts of the box in closed relation; Fig, 5 is a cross-section of the box showing the internal antiseptic bandages; and Fig. 6 is an enlarged section of the joint between the two parts of the box.
This box comprises two pan-shaped members 10 and 11, the latter being slightly larger than the former so that the rim 1'3 of member 10 may be fitted within the mcmbcr 11 whcrebya partial telescoping ol' the two.
upstanding part of the member is preferably bent outwardly and then inwardly to form the flange as shown in Fig. 6. When these two pan-shaped members are telescoped or interfitted they are held together by a substantially rectangular binding strip or band 15 U-shaped in. cr0ss-section, as shown in Fig. 6, the two parallel le s of the U rasping the sides of flanges 13 and 14, as will ily understood. When in position on the box the two ends 16 and 17 of this bindin strip overlap slightly, as shown in Fig. 1, an
in order that this band 15 may be ulckly removed from the casket without t e use of any tools or appliances the end 17 is bent outwardly so that it may be readily gras edbv the thumb and forefinger and strippe off of the flanges, the frame formed by the band spreading readily, as shown in Fig. 4. This band 15 1S desirably equipped with two up standing hooks 18 which are integral with tachment to the belt of the soldier.
All the parts of this box are preferably" made of copper, the internal surfaces ofthe" box being provided with a coating, of tin 18", 1 as indicated in Fig. 6, and the exterior-part of the box and frame are desirably covered It will thus be apparent that thcreis no danger of corrosionwith paint or.with enamel.
and that the bandagesarc preserved in the roper condition. .lf desirable after the liand or strip 15 has been applied to the box it may be pressed by machinery into firm en'- gagement with the flanges 13 and14 so that there is no possibility of externalair reaching the interior of the receptacle or of the band or strip being accidentally torn oil'.
If the looking or binding strip is-removcd with care it can be replaced so that the box or receptacle can be used repeatedly.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the structure of the box described above without departing from the substance of my inveniion or sacrificing any of its advantages.
I claim:
1'. A rcccptzn-le of the cl'nn'acter described, comprising two parls, cnch having a lateral outstanding llange the thickness of which at any )oint is at least equal to the thickness of the llangc at any point nearer its outer edge, said parts being adapted to be assembled to form a closed receptacle with one flange on the other, and a removable binding strip e readare assemb ed to adapted to grip said flanges to hold the two parts of the box or receptacle together, said inding strip constituting the sole means for sealing the receptacle, substantially as described.
2. A receptacle of the character described comprising two parts each having a lateral outstanding flange of substantially uniform thickness, said parts being adapted to be asi parts of the receptacle together, said binding strip constituting the sole means for sealing the receptacle, substantially as described.
4. A receptacle of the character described,
comprisin' two parts each having an outstanding nge, the two flanges being brought together when said parts are assembled to form a closed receptacle, and a removable or locking strip gripping said flanges bindi g to hol' the two parts of the receptacle together, said strip. constituting the sole means for sealing the receptacle and having means adapted to be manually grasped to remove the stri from the flanges, substantially as described.
5. A receptacle of the character described,
comprising two parts each having an outstanding flange, the two flanges being brought together when said parts are assembled to formfa' closed receptacle, and aremovable 'bindin or locking strip gripping said Ilangcs to hol the two parts of the receptacle together, said strip being equipped with supporting hooks, substantially as described.
6. A receptacle of the character described, comprising two telescoping parts each having an outstanding flange, the two flanges being brought together when the two parts are adapted to be manually grasped to remove a the strip from the flanges and also having supporting hooks, substantially as described.
7. A receptacle of the character described, comprising two pan-shaped members each with a flange, said members being adapted to partially telescope to form a closed casket, said flanges being brought together when said members are thus interfitted, and a binding strip to hold said flanges together, said binding strip constituting the sole means for sealing the receptacle, substantially as described.
8. A receptacle of the character described, comprising two pan-shaped members adapted to partially telescope to form a' closed casket, each of said members having an outwardly projecting flange extending completely around its upstanding rim, said flanges being brought together .whensaid members are telescoped, and a binding strip U-shaped in cross-section adapted to bind said flanges" together, said strip constituting the sole means for sealing the receptacle and having means to be grasped whereby it may be readily removed and the receptacle opened, substantially as described.
9. A receptacle of the character described, comprising two pan-shaped members ad apted to partially telescope to form a closed casket, each ol said members having an outwardly projecting flange extending completely around its upstanding rim, said flanges being brought together when said members are telescoped, and a binding strip U-shaped in cross-section adapted to bind said flanges together, said strip having means to be grasped whereby it may be readily re-' moved and the receptacle opened, said strip also having hooks adapted to be attached to a support, substantially as described.
